hey guys new guy here name is shane and from oregon just picked up a 99 gsx about 3 months ago only has 40,000 on the car,but my question is (and have searched but cannot come up with a deffinate answer) some times on a cold day my car wont start on the first go ,it will crap out and die but on the second go it starts fine, also have noticed ever since I've had the car it also idles at only 400 rpms ,can these two symptoms be linked and what exactly should I look for ..thanks for any info...car has 40,000 miles, injen intake, voodoo boost controller, apexi n1 exhaust..no cat, greddy upper and lower ic pipes

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. mine starts fine on the first try, but I have the same random miss at idle.

When the car is running I can hear what sounds like a vacuum leak coming from the IAC but I havn't pulled it apart yet to see if thats what the problem is.

if I ever get a day off of work I'm going to check the iac,and also look into the throttle body and see how gummed up it is maybe also clean the intercooler also ,but I really dont want to mess with the biss if I dont have to it just seemes that I would be covering up a problem rather than fixing it.I bought a fpr from napa but have not installed it yet ..thats what they suggested but I dont know

don't know if the fpr would make much difference. clean the throttle body like you said, check your iac.

if you don't know if the BISS orings have ever been replaced, it probably be a good idea to replace them. I replaced the screw oring and cap on mine, and it helped out some. they aren't to bad, just count how many turns you take it out so you pretty close to where it was set when you go to put it back in

I remember talking to the guy when I bought the car from him and he said the idle miss came right after he had the down pipe added and cat removed .I remember reading some where about a ground wire right by the down pipe that can get knocked loose or fall off in the process of exhaust work. would that affect these problems and would anybody have any pics?

other than having to try and start it twice does it run like it should? I put a new water pump on mine over the weekend, noticed hte tiing belt was just a hir to loose, that fixed some of my low idle problems

If the car starts on the second try you may be having a problem with your fuel system. It sounds like your fuel pressure is not high enough to support the air flow, which would give you low idle. If it is the fuel system check your pump's pressure and your fuel pressure regulator. If it is not that, then you have a vacuum leak in your ic pipes or tb.
