Seat Replacement

So right now I have stock cloth seats in my 97 Eclipse GS. I am wanting to buy racing seats for it, but they are pretty expensive, and it's extremely hard for me to find OEM leather replacement seats in my area, I was wondering either what other car's leather seats could possibly work, or if it would be worth it to reupholster them? And how I would go about doing that. I do not want to go the typical way and just buy seat covers.

I have seen people reuphoster them and they look great. I dont know how much it costs though. It might be worth looking into then.

Not true.

Dodge Avenger and Chrysler Sebring 95-99 seats, will bolt right in.
Possibly up to 2000, I'm not sure when they did the body style change.

True, Although I thought that went without saying because they are the same seats and pretty much the same interior.

Why not buy some of the cheap racing seats they sell at checker or napa instead of name brand? You would just have to get brackets/sliders made/modified to fit. Alot of them are very aggressive and cheap and if you don't like the color or material you can have them reupholstered with whatever color or material you want so they end up being perfect for you certain car and personal taste.

I think he has the right idea on buying quality parts. You really dont want to skimp on a part that plays such a large role in your safety.

They shouldn't be a problem at all as long as the time is taken to secure them to the car properly. The only bad quality to them that I've seen is the material that they are made of which is where the reupholstering would come into play.

I wouldn't want to get cheap on a key safety element of the car. And I dont see why he would want to spend the extra money the seats just to have them reupholstered when he could just have his reupholstered and cut the cost of the cheap-o seats.

Honestly, I think a lot of people are ignorant to the fact that Avengers and Sebrings are basically DSM's.
And that share share a lot of parts.
Me personally every time I see an Avenger, all I can see is the Eclipse doors!

I wouldn't say it is good to cheap out on seats.
But if you buy quality mounting brackets, it seems like it would be ok.

To do yourself? yeah, probably. I think you can buy pre made seat covers on ebay. Not sure about fitment or even if it is for our year of car.

Meh. Seat covers. Boo. Get them reupholstered. Then you are for sure they fit, no brackets or fab. needed. I priced on getting the hubby's seats (front and rear) redone in black vinyl or leather. I can't remember now. The dude said $800. So whenever I've got a spare $800 lying around... guess who's getting their seats done?

I'm not talking a seat cover you put over your busted ass old seat fabric. Im talking an actual replacement for your busted ass old fabric. It's like $200 for a set.
