I read through the big creep threads for the evoiii, i am pleased it mostly focused on the slowboy model because this is the one i will be getting. I will also be installing an rnr 3" o2 eliminator downpipe so esentilay i have a super ported o2 housing, Questions are:

Should i just get the turbo and do the port work myself to match the discritions i read in which the step is removed in the exhaust entrance to allow better flow toward the wastegate?

What is the max boost that can be run before a 34mm flapper "blows open." Would this be a feasible solution?

its 110 bucks for slowboy to port and flapper the turbo, but it would seem that i could spen 30 bucks on bits and do a bettor port job my self and still retain high boost pressure latter on, just to clarify.

KEEP IN MIND i want to keep the boost low posibly around 13 psi untill i get injectors and fmic, after i would like to go near 20 or higher, but i dont want to be limited.

Thanks alot for the help, its getting near zero hour and i want to be sure of everything befor i order.

I would say let them do the porting....I did my own on my exhaust mani and o2 housing and it was a BIG bi***. I had new bits and all and it took forever, but I saved money. the trubo Id have them do as they do a GREAT job and saves you time so you can port your mani out your self. I hear that b16g and evos can run about 24psi and still be ok...

i would let them do the porting but for i have heard it is not as extensive as is required to eliminate creep

Let them do the porting, as they have a CNC machine for porting, very nice piece, so it myself.
Make sure the O2 housing is ported as mine is but not to the max and i'm getting creep like crazy, but that will go away as soon as I get the fuel done ;)

All I can say is DONT PORT IT YOURSELF! I did this to save money and god damn it took forever, after 2.5 hours of grinding I decided it best just to remove the step. So thats all I did in 2.5 hours. What PITA.... If I were to do it all over again I would def. let them port it.

Exactly, pain in the ass, unless you have an air grinder and very cool neighbours and patience and lot of Advil, have them port it

do any of you know if they will port to request, because from what i here thier port job is insuffisient to elinate creep, while a thread has offered a method that does work for people

They will port to request but there is an extra charge for it, i believe $70.0
As far as the technique they use, i'm not sure but from what i saw they hog out my manifold.

I had SB do the exhuast port (7MM) and maybe should have had the wastegate done too, since I can't boost lower than 20psi. I also bought the evoIII exhuast man. and o2 housing which I ported myself. Pick up a electric 1/4" collet, die grinder from SEARS and some good bits and go to town. Don't try to do it with a dremel or it will take days.

oh and just to give SB props the port job was the best i've seen, mirror finish.

I actually did use an air die grinder, I used the bits that came with it though. Still took me a hell of a long time.

It is still a time consuming process, man if you guys see the CNC porting machine they have, it will amaze you, makes porting a manifold like peeling a potatoe

i belive that is the oposite case according to what i have read, external dump increaes the efficict of the turbo and so would promote creep in an internal wastegate setup

Well don't use stones to do the actual porting. Use a carbide burr to do the porting and then use stones to clean it up and if you really want that mirror finish end with sandpaper drums. Stones will take forever to get rid of any metal. The burr will make very very short work compared useing stones.

2nd against that. grinding with stone bits sucks ass. use a good tree shaped carbide burr with an electric/air grinder and you'll be done in a few hours. yes porting is a biatch, and it makes your ears bleed and your hands numb.. but $40 > 150+

i did my o2, exhaust mani, wastegate in about 4 hours total. 50 metal splinters later, i have no boost creep :thumb:

i think i will get thier port job, and then do more myself to save time.

If you give Mike and the guys up there a greater idea of how you want things ported I'm sure they 'll work with you. If they are too busy, just let me know and I can do the porting for the same price if not less than Slowboy. These things are really not that hard to port on your own if you have the tools. I was going to have Slowboy do the port job on my exhaust manifold and realized that I have access to a full machine shop and I have way more machines at my disposal to do the job the way I saw fit and put a much cleaner finish on myself with the tools I already have.

IMO, your first choice should be Slowboy because they are an awesome group of guys and they really bust their butts to help out the DSM community in any way they can.

Second choice - me if they can't do what you want since I know exactly what they are doing and can replicate with greater accuracy and competitive price.

hmm truth is that i was goign to go with slowboy becasue they sold an install kit, mostly for convienience. I think i may go with FP cause i just found they also have an install kit, and porting which i have read is much better for simmilar price

Yeah, it looks like the only difference between the two is the fact that the Slowboy kit uses two pieces of pipe to get you where you need to be. I guess you can look at the one of two ways: Either as one more place for restriction when you are trying to eliminate that by buying the kit or as room for some adjustability if you need it.

I think that it's 6-in-one half-dozen in the other when you are finished. The turbos from both with the install kit are almost the exact same price. If you want to save $45 on the port job go with Slowboy and get yourself some paddle sanding wheels for a couple bucks so you can take things out to your satisfaction, or go to work for the couple extra hours and just get it from Forced Performance.

well i just orderd the turbo, install kit, with porting from FP... those guys are great 889 shipped thanks for all your advice, the guy said it might still creep a little so ill probly port a little more if it needs it.
