scary sound from engine

Yesterday I changed my oil with Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic. I used to go 10w40 but that's not the suggested oil I guess. Today while driving kinda hard cos I was lost and kept passing the place I needed to get to I suddenly started hearing this God aweful screeching. It's the worst sound I ever heard. At first I thought it's my belts but I sprayed them and it still makes the noise. I think it goes faster as the motor goes faster and just idles and goes rawlrlrrlrrlrawrlrrlr I don't know who to explain it. I think it's coming from within the motor. I'm not burning oil, there's no smoke, my oil light does blink during low idle if I run it hard but I know my oil is full, so I think the sensor is bad, but still. Help!

My neighbor came over and loaned his ears since mine are half way gone, . He says it's the A/C compressor bearings, cos it changes when I turn the air on. So I'm gonna get the power steering only belt and see if that was it. I'll post back.

Bearings grinding is a scary-ass sound!

It was A/C compressor bearings. I just got the 40 inch belt and bypassed it.

There ya go, didn't even need us! My truck was doing the same thing and I was pretty scared one day...until I turned on my A/C and it went away

Did you remove all the A/C components yet? Might as well save some weight and clean up the bay if you don't plan on repairing it :S

That'll be tough living in Florida unless he's got another car. I've been to Sarasota in the summer and it gets pretty hot. I'd just replace the compressor.
