Using a s16g with a stock 2g head, would SBR exhaust manifold (ported/ unported w/e) be overkill for that set-up, would a EVO manifold be better bc it's smaller and therefore keeps higher exhaust gas velocity up compared to a larger manifold?
Thanks
~Johnny

If I gave you two identical cars, but one had a ported 2g manifold and the other had a SBR manifold, I would eat my hat if you could tell me the difference.

Any badmouthing of SBR will result in this thread vanishing into cyberspace just like the other one.

Oh god. Another one. Ill behave.

The SBR cast manifold would be overkill. Your 2g manifold would be more than plenty, and you can always port that. No need to spend anymore money than the cost of having your manifold ported if youd like to do that. You just wouldnt gain anything from going to the larger manifold. Now im sure ppl will probly get on here, and talk about how great the manifold is etc, and u should def get one. The manifold is a nice design. But doesnt mean every setup will see a gain from it. So trust me when i say, save your money.

2g will be fine.... Shit 1g would be fine, people only upgrade them because of the fact they tend to crack so much. People are always going to argue, that the SBR has larger ports, its going to be better. A ported 2g manifold is more than enough. Some people like to know they built theyre car to be overkill, those tend to be the same ones upgrading ignition systems on 300hp cars etc. Theyres alot of parts although nice, just arent necessary.

The SBR mani is a nicer mani for those running hybrids with the to4e covers, as it puts it just a hair further from the head, so youll have more water pipe clearance.

I have the SBR manifold and it is a very good piece. Worth the $ IMO.

i was thinkin 34mm flapper,2g mani, evo o2 housing on my 16g setup. im gonna run that turbo to start for streetable reasons as it is a daily driver. kinda want boost to come on quick. id run it at liek 22psi on 93 pump gas. i dont see the need for a tube mani or anything. unless runnign a hybrid liek you said.

i may run stock size valves as well with mild porting on the head

lil off the subject, but theyre is NO NEED honestly to upgrade to an oversized valve in 90% of applications. That setup would be more than plenty for a 16g setup. People just tend to like to spend way more money than they have to. Its also the fact, everyone likes to buy new parts, and spend money hehe. But really, its not necessary.

If you think the money your spending is well worth it, who cares honestly. Doesnt mean its money well spent, but its YOUR money.

That is the only reason I will be ditching my ported manifold in favor of the SBR unit this winter.

I have a brand new sbr ported manifold sitting in my garage. Awesome peice and I don't think it will have any cracking problems for a long time. Can't beat the price either!!

hehe yea ... actually once I get a tranny I'll be putting it all together and using all my parts finally! I did buy one of those ebay tubular manifolds a while back which will stay sitting in the garage though because this sbr mani ownz.

Well i have money to buy one and i needed something to be big enough for my t04e 60trim with the 7cm opening.... so i kinda wandered into my garage and took off my 2g manifold and i said wth, and started porting it... And like 2 hours later i had a perfectly ported 7cm manifold and i was glad to keep my 250 bux in the bank...

no i used my die grinder with a carbide porting bit .... it kinda looks exactly like those huge diamond tip drilling tips but it fits inside my die grinder.... i used 150psi on my compressor. and i sware i took off like 2lbs of cast iron LOL... ill take a pic for ya i still need to wet sand it down to a smooth texture... :shhh:

here are the pix of my 2g manifold.. i mean its not the most perfect circle port job but 2 hours porting sure seemed like a better trade off vs. 250$$$. :shhh: Also there is the die grinder and port bit i used.

its still there at the orginal height it just looks that way becuase of the angle of the photo

And how may i ask did you do it in 20 minutes.??? if you did in that time you could take over the Dsm porting business.... you must of had a 100,000 rpm drill or something i just didnt think that was possible to do a 7cm port match job in 20 minutes OMG
