I see no need in allowing this continue. The content of the first post of this thread basically illustrates someone who had no intention of abiding by our posted rules. He talks about how he spent time coming up with ways to insult members he didn't agree with, or didn't like the questions they asked. This person received numerous requests to respect our posted policies and he ultimately refused to do so. I don't care who you are on our site - you are expected to follow the rules that we have plastered all over the place. It's posted on every submission form of our site - no insults, smart ass replies, or elitist attitudes. I'm not sure what else we were supposed to do to enforce our posted rules.
It appears this person is now on a quest to build a new DSM community where insults and elitist attitudes are going to be allowed, or so it may seem. If it's something he's done here countless times, it must be something he'll be allowing on the site he believes will be superior to this one or else he wouldn't have done it here regularly. If it is not allowed there, I'd have to say that would be a little ironic, if not amazingly hypocritical. The plans for this new community sound as if they mimic our own goals and ideals exactly, outside of not being very welcoming to newbies. I'm curious as to how that will work.
In any event, this is not something I care to have our members dwell on. Members will not always be happy with how we run things here. In managing community sites over the past 12 years now, I've found that you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. You can never make everyone happy. And no matter how hard you try, you can't keep everyone around forever. You can only do what you feel is right and be as consistent as possible. No community is ever going to be perfect. Building a new site to compete with ours because of disagreements with the site leadership only seems to be a little bit misguided, and even slightly childish - but that's just my opinion. I can't say that wasn't part of my own motivation to build DSMtuners 10 years ago, but it certainly wasn't the leading motivation. Best of luck.
What a slap in the face to me, all the moderators, and everyone else who has put time and effort into contributing to this site. I apologize to everyone for driving people away who are now wanting to create yet another DSM site whose goal is to drive another wedge into the community, further fragmenting the information we have available to us. These people believe they're helping the community by creating a new site, I believe they're hurting it. I'll just keep doing what I think is best and will try not to drive others away. If our rules are too difficult to follow though, I'm not sure how that will work.
