Well everyone, we know that I am targeting 21 psi on my big 16g.

Could someone tell me what *safe* timing and AFR numbers would be like while I am verifying that I have boost set where I want it to be?

I am struggling with RT Tuner Pro right now but I would at least like to try and retard timing and richen AFR while I am trying to get boost sorted so I don't lunch my motor (which I am historically prone to doing).

Do you have any numbers that you would suggest that would be reasonable enough for me to test boost with but not overly rich or retarded to the degree where I would start causing problems that aren't there if you know what I mean.

The car has been tuned for 16 psi by the previous owner so I would imagine that upping the boost without backing off of timing and AFR wouldn't be the best idea.

Thanks for any ideas!

When I start tuning I setup boost at 10psi. If AFR is richer than 11.1 I work on timing. If its leaner I will work on AFR first. I target 11.1 on pump gas. After that setup timing. Since you have a 1g you will want to pull a good amount of timing out. I would shoot for around 14-16* at max starting off. Once AFR is richer than 11.1 and timing is maxing at 16* then raise boost around 5psi at a time. AFR will change drastically if you raise the boost a lot. Work on the afr and boost a little at a time till your at your 21psi. Once boost is set and afr is around 11.1 then start to add 1* of timing at a time as long as you dont have any knock. Keep adding timing till you see a little knock and then back it off.

When I ran pump gas a 16g I ran 10.9 AFR, 18* timing and 18psi. I still had a little knock issue.

Now on e85 I run 12.0 AFR, 22* timing and 32psi on the same exact car with no knock. I love the stuff.
