Hey guys, this is another SAFC question. I bought my car a 1G 1990 TSI AWD, 550 injectors, 16g, wally 255. The cars dead on at about 11psi. My correction factor is 10%.

My question is most people say that when you add bigger injectors on the SAFC and do a correction for it then you add timing, correct? Well why can't you just use the CAS to retard the timing that is being added?

the safc doesn't affect timing.

The safc takes your input aiflow signal right before the ecu, converts it to a percentage, so you can add or subtract airflow %, then sends the adjustment to your ecu, after converting it back to ecu language LOL.

It basically tricks your ecu into thinking there's more or less air, so you can have more or less fuel

Adjusting the CAS would effect the timing across the bored not just for a correction. As far as I know you can run up to 650cc injectors on the stock ecu, anything bigger and you should have at least an eeprom chip otherwise link is the way to go

^ I think he meant to say on the SAFC, not the ecu. But he is correct either way. The SAFC will only support injectors up to 650cc's. Anything over that and you really need DSMlink.

Well a safc lies to the ecu about the airflow signal and so the ecu change timing because in the timing map, timing is related with airflow reading. The safc correction is in percent but if you move the CAS you will change timing by 1-2-3 degrees or more everywhere in the map. With the safc correction the ecu maybe change timing by 1 degree at idle and 5 degree at 5000rpm (example, not necessary true number). That's why I've sold my safc few years back and got Ecmlink. Hope that help.

^This.

The larger the injectors the more airflow the SAFC will have to pull to get the correct fuel ratios. The problem with that is when the ecu see low airflow it assumes the car is cruising so it rams up timing to get a more efficient combustion. If you want to run bigger injectors you can go; custom chip, ostrich, maf-t or link.
