Hi everybody, I just helped a friend of mine install an AFC on his 90 Talon AWD. The install went off without a hitch but I told him not to change anything until he gets at least a datalogger or maybe an EGT gauge. However he is bound and determined to make some small changes for who knows what reason, he can't stand to have the AFC and not be using it. So can anyone recommend some conservative settings for a 90 with stock fuel injectors and fuel pump stock 14b at 15-16psi K&N filter and full turbo back exhaust and lower honeycomb and round restrictor thingy removed. That's all the mods he has and he wants to do something with his new AFC.

We do have a turbo timer hooked up and he can see the O2 sensor voltage through that but it's a narrowband and I believe its not that accurate right? What should the voltage be for any given rpm?

Any help is appreciated and I don't want smartass answers to get a pocketlogger because that is next on the list. I'm just looking for some conservative settings with those mods to start with for now.

Thanks, Allen

There is no "recommended" setting for the S-AFC as each car is different.. and behaves differently to tuning. The 1990 runs pretty rich stock.. so with your current boost level and the MAS screen removal.. you're prol prety good with the S-AFC at zero.

There are some good S-AFC instructions on RRE's site and tunign help here in the Tech Articles if you care to check them out.

BTW.. the stock O2 sensor will only tell you if you're way off in your tuning (i.e. running super rich/lean).

How bout -1% across the board. Smack your friend and tell him to hide the afc under his seat or something so he doesn't touch it. Loggers can be had for cheap. But on the other hand, you can let him do whatever he wants so the car will feel fast up until he blows something.

Thanks for the quick replys, I'll be sure to show this to him as proof that he needs a datalogger before he starts messing with this thing.

He may even be better off richening it up. With the HCs out of the MAS, he is already risking a lean condition he has no way of monitoring.
