Hey there i have searched this topic threw this site, and all the post i have found are very old but help a little.Im sorta a noob, but i have came along way of understanding dsms. I have a few questions ..

1.Would a SAFC be something i would need for my 2g setup? Im running very rich, and trying to fix this problem.I have looked into a FPR, but i do have a SAFC on hand but not installed.Give me suggestons.

I have heard that the SAFC advances my timing. Which can lead to destroying things which i cant let happen because money is short and its my family car LOL.
so im looking for the safest tune for better MPG WTF
 
A SAFC can lean things out and give you a tad bit better MPG, But it doesnt advance timing at the same rate of leaning and riching fuel mixture. The safc can influence timing but since it is still a piggy back, it can be overridden by the ECU for timing. I suggest getting a data logger if you are tuning with safc. That way you can tune to knock and have a very safe tune.
 
So im wanting DSM link but thats not gonna happen till tax time for when i put a few grand into it. is there another data logging solution?
 
I just did and found same web site.. so i found a pricing but wouldnt it be wroth the extra 100 bucks just to get v3

I have read about this, and it says that i need to reprogam my ecu if i change things and on the list it said fuel pressure well i have upgraded my fuel pump its a 190lph. Will this progam reprogram my ecu. Being a noob and all i dont feel very confident.

No, just a logging software if you don't feel like dishing 100+ for a datalogger or 50ish if you find a used one (evoscan is 25$ and you'll need a something like this USB cable KKL 409.1 VW/AUDI OBD2 OBD USB VAG COM 409 | eBay to plug it in)

As you know you need a logger to operate a SAFC, just giving you a cheaper alternative. If in the long run you're buying DSMlink though, just save up and buy it.
 
I will for sure try this program. I dont need to do anything with my ecu do i? is it just straight plug and play?

And that cord on ebay will work for my car? Its obd2 and all but i didnt know cause that page says it for audi.

Nope, ecu is untouched (well you'll need to splice your SAFC into the ecu wires, but that's normal if you're going to use one) it's like a diagnostic program, plugs into your ecu via OBD2 port and into your laptop enabling you to read the info needed to tune with your SAFC (which I'm guessing you want to use since you have it in your profile).

And yes that cord will work, it's what the ecuflash guys (people using ecu flash on the 98-99 plastic ecu's) use as a cheap wire.
 
Thanks for the tips very helpful.Do you have any suggestions on a good way to tap my SAFC into my ecu i just dont want to fry it are damage it?
 
And just so you avoid headaches later make sure to use the drivers that come with the evoscan if you do go that route and not the ones provided with the cable I mentioned on ebay. It works fine but you need to use the right drivers.

The 409.1 works fine with EvoScan. Just use the EvoScan drivers, don't use the VAG-Com drivers that come with the cable.
