SAFC Help...

Hey guys,

I just got my SAFC 1 and would have some questions. ( installing it this weekend.)

First of all for installation am I better just shaving some of the wire off and soldering like that or cut it and splice it?

I know for the MAF wire I need to cut it.

Also my set up is

93 Talon 6 bolt
550cc
2g MAF
3" exhaust ... leaking at Flex :S
Prosport boost,water temp , oil press gauge
Stock SMIC
SAFC 1 + Logger

1. now for the Injectors 550cc are -18% bigger right ?
2. he 2g MAF is +20%?

What should my intital setup be... according to the numbers up there I should be at +2 at low RPMS.... 1k- 4k ?

And then tune from there?

Is this statement correct?

+ adds fuel and compensates for a lean condition.

- removes fuel and compensates for a rich condition, say, when you add larger injectors.


It's much more common to be in the "-" range if you have larger-than-stock injectors, except if you're a 1G car using a 2G MAS.

What would you guys set the LO and HI at ? 30% THR and 80%?

Also what should I set my base timing @ 5 still ? or a little lower?

any other advice welcomed

minus for bigger injectors. -18% fuel should be a good start for 550 to 560's . 5 degrees base timing is perfect with the ecu grounded and 8 degrees at idle un grounded. do you have a logger or a wideband? here's some good reading for you. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-tuning-ecu/105569-how-safc-works.html sorry i see you have a logger

just watch the logger, and your fuel trim 02 you want it to cycle as close to 100 % as possible and you'll be able to see where to adjust it. and weather to go up or down with the airflow percentages.

Start out at -10% and work from there, taking away too much can destroy your engine. I think 550's are 16-20% larger, so I recommend not taking too much down in one bang. Play around with it, do a few pulls and see how it feels.

Let's say you have 680s and a sbr 50 trim and a safc2 and just want a safe setting to break in the engine with plans of getting link. I'm new to the forums let me know if I should start my own thread with this questions or if it was ok to ask hear since it's the same subject.

SO I installed the SAFC going to get to tuning 2morrow....checked a little out today.

So i should start at -10-15% to start off with ?

For LO I find it very hard to tune with the 02 V as they dont really move at 1k-3k ? any tricks for this ?

or do i use fuel trims to do LO ? Dont these take forever to update ?

what should TIMA ( timing advance be ) @ WOT?

Your 02 volts are probably sluggish because your running rich. you'll want to watch your 02 trim on the fuel trim page of the logger. you want it to cycle as close to 100% as possible. you can do this in the drive way for the lower rpms . rev the engine to 1000 rpms and raise or lower on the safc lo scale 1000 rpm setting till you get the 02 trim cycling around 100 %. repeat this for 2000 and 3000 rpms. then check to see that your o2 volts are cycling. to make sure your running in closed loop. and the trims will update faster. that should get you started so you can go for a cruise.

awsome ill look at the trims my goal is the 02 Trim and not worry about the low , med high ? or if my O2 trims are 100% my low , med and and high will be roughly ~ 100-/+10%
