so i was cruising today and i recall my safc after a semi decent run and i had 197 counts of knock.. :barf: . i would think my car would be dead if that was the true case and the motor feels to be runin strong... ive heard of phantom knock but am not familiar with what it is.. is this what im experiencing? ?or should i go to extreme and have them look at it?? please dont calll me an idiot, im just wondering if the afc is off or my car is secretly dead.. :dsm: :dsm: :dsm:

Yea on our 2g's SAFC's and dataloggers will not correctly read knock. You have to log your car. If your timing is getting pulled its safe to say that is knock...read up a little more on datalogging. If you dont have a datalogger, its a must have!! Digitaltuning.com sells the 2g pocketloggers.

Well, I have heard the S-AFC2 can read knock on a 2G, but it has to be setup and the process for doing so is tedious. Otherwise you get garbage output values at the default levels.

so when i hooked it up and tied the knock wire on the afc to the knock sensor pin on the ECU, i was wrong??? or do the just have something like different output signals... i just thought that a knock sensor pin on the ECU would be the same that you tap into with the knock wire on the afc....

You have to set the parameters for what the sensor determines as knock and ignores as background engine noise as described in the manual. It involves narrowing the focus of certain frequencies.

i am glad i read this post b/c for the last month or so my car has been doing the same thing. i even had it tuned and it still reads like 197 knock when i get on it. even when i cruise the knock just seems to keep climbing until i turn the car off and back on again it goes away.
