i have no idea why mine shows knock but it does, i had a shop intall and tune it, but i am confused as you are because i was not expecting in to show

Mine shows "knock" too. It is just a rapidly fluctuating number that I'm guessing, doesn't mean jack.

The joystick is a little twitchy, perhaps they're making sure you aren't driving around while playing with the thing.

At any rate, the place where I got mine was selling the II for less then the I. So what the hell. I like the idea of the password function.

get the first one, its cheaper, you are not planning on having some super monster drag car(but if you were you would have stand-alone), the buttons are way easier to use!!! trust me try tunning someone or driving and changing the values with that damn turn knob and you will want to kill yourself, and it does its job. How often is the password protect really going to come into handy?? I don't know about all of you but no one drives me car other than me and I don't let anyone play around with it and shit. The dual map feature can be helpful if you are frequently changing settings but if you are then you would have the settings memorized and would be able to swith between race tune and street tune easily.

The only thing you have to do to set up the knock option is hook up the correct wire to the proper place.
Read the instructions!
After you are done, again, follow the instructions to set it up.
You need to rev the car to 1500 and 3500 rpm (or something like it) and set the knock filter to filter the extra noise. It seems like it works fine for me.
SAFC II is the only way to go.
