You have to get a 95 EPROM ECU ( junkyard usually around 100-300$ ).
Send it to them. That way you can still drive your car while they work on the other ecu.

I went through the whole decision for DSMLink vs SAFC2 and I chose the SAFC2 for one reason. Price. I do agree that DSMLink is vastly superior to the SAFC2.

DSMLink $615 - $645
95 EEPROM ECU - $100 - $300
Laptop - $300 - $2000


S-AFC2 - 260 - 325


My car is a daily driver and I am not endowed with a large cash flow.

But you get what you pay for...And you don't HAVE to buy a laptop, I just borrow my dads when I want to tune...and you could use a friends as well

but don't forget the logger with the AFC thats another 100.

now, klipzedgsx, by one of your posts...I'm unsure, do you already have an AFC? If you do, then great...use that until you can buy DSMLink...but don't buy an AFC/logger just to tune slightly now, then buy DSMLink later...you will only loose your money

550cc injectors or less
no bigger than 16g turbo
no more than 15psi (stock IC)
no more than 19-20psi (FMIC)
you have good knowledge of timing curves
and other stuff, but I'm just not thinking right now.

But anyway...cool, you are going to get DSMLink...I know you will be happy...it really is that much better.

That is true, I didn't think about the logger because I already have one.. But you nailed my goals right here. 550cc injectors and a bigger SMIC and I am done with fuel mods for my car.

If you don't quite have the money for a full dsmlink right now, but want to tune i would go buy a cheap pocketlogger steup. Then go buy a MAFT with a $30 3" GM Maf hook it up for a draw though setup that shouldn't be much more than $350. do basic tuning with that then save up for a DSMlink system. Then you can always use the translator with the dsmlink and put in a blow though setup if you want later on. and if the new dsmlink will work on a palm pc(I don't know much about doing that at just heard u could) your set up. mabey you can only log with a palm pc with dsmlink i dunno.

but all u have to do is buy a $100 lap top of ebay too. nothing fancy is needed but u might be able to find a eprom at a yard for less than $200 too.

Dsmlink is sux.Its expensive.AFC II is much better than that.I dont give a shit 650$ to dsmlink.

I think this guy is just jealos that he spent $300 on a damn piggy back and $200 on a pocket loger and for an extra $300 more you could do about 10x's more! Have you even used a dsmlink system? I don't have one yet but i've seen my friend's and played with the logs on his a little its freaking sweat.

your pocket logger don't even read knock. the dsmlink system everything, even est. HP values, 3-dimensional mapping, speed denisty system.

Not to mention it has a full shutterbox system, with the no-lift to shift feature and now a anti-lagging system. and so many other small features like an idle up program if you aftermarket cames. or for people with a FMIC you can turn the fans on high to help cool it down or nice for A/T to after hard power brake.

I didn't even list 1/2 the advanages to having a dsmlink, and for a couple hundered more WTF wouldn't you buy it???? I could see mabey if you didn't have much cash and didn't have big plans, but atleast don't bash it.

I agree, this above guy does not have a grip on the English language, however, if I am going to do something, that means doing it the right, and not with $100 Ebay notebooks which sport a Pentium 1 and 32megs of ram that will probably last about a month not to mention you are pretty much forced to put Win-Blows 98 on it. It all comes down to what your goals are. For me, the S-AFC2 is the way to go especially since I Have a datalogger already.

$150 would get you a computer that would run the software pretty good. Heres one i just found on ebay real quick. pII with 128 megs of ram, but only a 3gig hard drive. but if all your going to do is run the dsmlink software it would run it pleny fast.

You could also get a Palm for $100 or less, that will work more than well enough for DSMLink. I prefer using the Palm computer over a laptop, just for portability reasons.

Pocketlogger + SAFC + 2G = Junk!

I hate the fact that it does not log knock. YOU ARE BASICALY GUESSING THAT YOU ARE NOT KNOCKING by using the timing curve. This can be tough because the timing curve changes with airflow levels.

And you only can efficiently log 3 parameters at the same time because it logs so slow.

Trust me

YOU WILL REGRET GOING SAFC/LOGGER if you are a 2G, even with a small turbo and lower goals !!!

Calm down people!!! We all know that there has to be someone who throws out a bogus opinion with no facts to support it. Give pantaREi some credit, maybe he saw that no one was keyboard racing and thought he might help out and get it over with. Anyway this issue has been beaten to death, so here's how it breaks down.

If you have a 1G T/E/L ( those are DSMs ) you get a Pocketlogger and the S-AFC II setup ( its a cheap setup and the first gens can log knock which is EXTREMELY important ).

2G owners get an EPROM ECU and the DSMlink. You don't even need a laptop, just get a really long cable and run it to your home PC from the garage. The PC is only necessary to make adjustments, you could use a Palm Pilot ( dirt cheap ) to make logs and use those in conjunction with the PC.

Whats this thread about? What is the best tuning device. Tuning is how to make power. Timing is where its at. You have to know if there is knock to know how well you are tuning for timing. 2Gs need the DSMlink to do that. Simple?

The DSMLink Palm client allows you to do EVERYTHING the P/C client does in regards to controlling/logging DSMLink.

1g owners can (and have) installed DSMLinks as well.

We were the first to put a 2g ECU (DSMlink in a 1g), last spring.

"Search" is your friend.

A palm suitable for use with dsmlink can be had for as little as $50 from places like half.com

If you were not such a stupid #### you would of noticed Hal, "Hal Landry" is quoted ""The car [is] so smooth during cruise & part throttle... WOT was just as strong as before with NO tuning! ... This is SO cool!"- Hal Landry " on the DSMLink homepage. Not to mention he came up with the write up on dsmlink in a 1g and i believe the software to run it on the palm. thats why i didnt get it.. too much money.. i wouldnt need EPROM cause i got a 95.. but i would still need a laptop.. and the dsmlink unit. install which im clueless about.. im sure way over $1000

compared to my safc 2limited.. 280.. it will do the job for 12s i know that..
