RX7 Wheels Really Worth It?

How do you know which ones are the revised versions? Also, what year range of RX-7s are these coming from?

read this it shows you the difference in the 2 styles. They both look the same from the front. the jdm later ones are 17" not 16".

only the EARLY 1993 wheels are prone to cracking. They modified all wheels after to be strong (and slightly heavier).

For the record my wheels WITH tires came in at 38lbs. According to tirerack.com my tires are 23lbs each. This means my wheels weight 15lbs.

I run them and I have the older version fd wheels. They are still fine with many launches and tight turns on my 92 awd pig.

But what needs to be considered is how much heavier a fatty 16" tire will weigh compared to a 45 profile 17" or whatever the cool kids run.
All that unsprung weight loss sounds amazing, but has anyone calculated a total before and after with tires? I'm just thinking a lot of the weightloss is offset by heavier rubber.

I picked up a set of the "heavier" FD2 wheels equipped with 245s and was 5.5lbs lighter a corner than my current aftermarket 17s w 225s.

I have the early FD RX7 wheels and if I do intend to put them on with 10mm spacers do i need to replace to long wheel studs?

you don't have to but I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you do. I asked this question to a few local performance shop all of them agreed anything over 5mm spacers you really should get longer and stronger studs.

As far as the whole wheel cracking thing. I personally made a thread on rx7 club and had people who drag race, road race and autrocross with all year wheels (including the non reinforced) tell me that they haven't had any issues. So don't worry about it.

About the longer studs, I've heard a few people saying that replacement often snap when they down launch but that all depends on the torque you put down. Any regards on that issue?

Note that our cars require hub-centric wheel spacers. Using the "cheappie" non hub-centric spacers will correct offsett, but puts all the load on the wheel studs, not the wheel hub. This will cause any wheel studs to snap
