Rust in wierd hatch area

I was waxing my car and noticed that I got rust forming in the area where the hinges are for the hatch. I don't know how I would get to this w/o removing the hatch completely. What would you guys do and how bad does it look?

my suggestion would be to find a way to get to there to work on it (even if it means removing the hatch) then sand/grind down the rusted area until its shiny metal, then get some good spray paint the protects against rust and mask off the area, then spray over it. be careful to make sure all the rust is gone before you spray, or it will keep rusting under the paint. In the pic it looks like just surface rust, so now is the time to fix it before it starts rusting through

Yea that's what I figured, I just hate the thought of having to remove that freakin heavy hatch . I guess I got a new project for this summer once school is out for awhile. Anyone have any advice on a good rust inhibitor to prevent this from happening again? I have never seen anyone with rust right here so I dunno. Shouldn't be bad after I get the hatch off I've done body work before on my GS. thanks for the reply

Use a product called por 15, they even have it in silver.
