Running poor after 15 min

hey i need some help. i have a 90 eagle talon awd Turbo. i just rebuild the bottom end and got the motor put in. when i start it up i can drive it good for about 15 min then when i give it more than 1/8th throttle it just boggs down and wants to die. i cant think of what could be causing this. can anyone help?

anything from a leaky or clogged injector to a coupler being too loose on the intercooler. maybe try to reset the ecu

could be an excess of gasoline flowing into the engine.... what injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, and Fuel adjustment computer are you using? Whats the gap on your spark plugs set to?

well i checked all my couplers and tried resetting the ecu. still nothing. i have brand new ngk plugs gapped at .035 and everyhing else is stock........except for the fuel pump. its a forced performance 255lph fuel pump. but i still dont understand why it runs good for 15 min.

Gap on plugs for a turbo should be .028, could be contributing to the problem but probably not causing it, but deff re-gap to .028. If everything is stock there is really no reason to run a 255 that I can think of but I believe your suppose to run an afpr when running a 255lph fuel pump as it can over run the stock fpr.

plus one on the .28-.30 on the gap and make sure they are the right heat range like i have bpr6es for moderate performance and stock. when i run 20 psi ill get bpr7es. hope this helps and goodluck

your engine is definitely getting over run with fuel with that 255FP....you have to run a afpr and set it 37psi for a 1G.....till then your car will get bogged down with fuel

I just did my head gasket and all of that happy stuff. How do you reset the ecu?

ok i got my megan racing afpr. atg first it holds 40psi. but after about 10 min of driving i loose fuel pressure and it drops to 20psi. i think i may have got a bad fuel pump. any thoughts?

Sounds like your pump is not keeping pressure up. If you know someone that would be willing to swap the pumps in their car to test it, you could narrow it down that way. IMO I'd replace the pump anyway as sooner or later you'll be looking at that as an upgrade. You have the afpr now so setting fp is no issue. good luck sir.

well its a brand new Forced performance 255lph fuel pump. that why i got the afpr. i thought the pump was OVER pumping the system but im leaning towards defective fuel pump.

all that can cause you to lose pressure inside the pump is a check valve. i have a walbro 255hp and sometimes my car holds full pressure for days, and sometimes it loses it within an hour. i don't worry about it. it will just make your car harder to start, but the pump should build pressure in a split second anyway. correct fuel pressure on a 1g turbo m/t is 36.3 psi with the vac line unplugged.

If I read this right the op is loosing pressure while the car is running. Is that correct, or did I read it wrong?

i see that in post 13 now. do you have any other FPRs or fuel pumps to try? even just testing a lesser pump or fpr that is known good will tell you.

no i dont have any spare parts or any friends with a dsm. and yes the car is loosing pressure after 10 min of running while its running. and i dont believe the check valve should matter while its running does it?

no the check valve is only to keep fuel pressure after the car is shut down

ok ok i figured it all out. i got the car running like a top now. turns out that when i installed the 255lph fuel pump the part where the fuel pump hanger connects to the fuel pump wasnt sealing correctly. so in result i was loosing fuel pressure. i just cut off part of the fuel pump hanger and connected the fuel pump with a piece of fuel injection hose. car runs great now
