Running Cat-less. (Possibly repost)

Okey. I searched for answers for this topic, got a few possible, but all were asked and answered around the 2003 year. You can scroll down to the slightly capitalized part if you wanna skip the following Blah Blah Blah.
Well, my 97 GSX currently runs an N1 cat back. Stock downpipe and cat. The stock down pipe is beginning to leak near the cat. And even with the silencer in the N1, the car's note doesn't change. It needs to be addressed. The stock downpipe and cat are rusted.
My finger is a little trigger happy and I'm trying to convince myself NOT to buy the Apex'i N1 SS downpipe. It'll hook up perfectly to my catback N1.

Now for the part I'm worried about. The car? I give it to my sister to drive, I don't really have time to drive, I take it to the track about once or twice a month, on the weekends only. My sister drives it to school and back, which is a combined trip of about 5 miles.
I am very sure running cat-less is illegal in Maryland. Well, I'm sorry, Mother Nature is gonna hafta take one for the team.
I want to run the straight pipe, I'm not worried about emissions testing, i can always crawl under there and put the stock pipe back on for emissions and I have a pocketlogger system to clear out any CEL's the downpipe might cause.

[LET ME GET TO THE POINT] How many of you have been running cat-less? Have any of you been caught? Anyone in Maryland? What happened? Ticket? Fine? Ass-beating?

I'd really hate to go get a downpipe and high-flow cat, it costs money and I'm already in about 4 grand debt due to this damn car so minimum damage to wallet is preferable.

i got pulled over running cutouts on my T/A simply because it sounded liek the apocolypse...i just told the cop that i was on my way home from the track (BS) he just told me to get hoem and get it fixed...

I would say that you wouldnt have any problem if you get pulled over...just be sure to give her the speach to give the cop if she were to get pulled over....if she is cute and acts ditzy, i dont forsee any problem from law enforcement

It is a federal offense to remove a working cat from a vehicle in this country, regardless of the state you live in.

But, I wouldn't worry about it...I've been ticketed no less than 5 times for my oversize/loud muffler...no cop has even considered it a possibility that it was more than just a muffler...I mean it isn't like I have replaced every piece of the stock exhaust system....

its not illegal where I live, I could notice a nice gain going from a 2.5 highflow cat to a testpipe

I live in Texas where you must have a cat, but I took mine off. I don't foresee a cop jacking up my car to look under and see if I have a cat, so I'm not worried about it. I have a friend who does inspections.

A friend of mine is a Constable, and I asked him about it. He said that if in the rare occasion a cop was an ass enough to look for it and it was missing, just say that you bought it that way and didn't know about it.

FYI: you will need to do the VFAQ 2nd o2 bypass or you will definately get a cel every day.

It works, and takes less than 3 minutes to put together and wire to the car...

you don't need to pull the wires into the interior, just do it under the car.

i've been running straight pipe since i got my car, haven't had any problems even though my car is loud as all hell. only got pulled over once for supposedly doing 50 in a 35. didn't get a ticket though

have to do the bypass.

mine was broken (rock?) so I just bypassed it for $2 instead of an O2 for a hundred!

i have a 99gst with a 3" test pipe and NO cel. =) I didn't do the downstream o2 sensor rewire either! It's a mystery, but im not complaining.

Same here I have a 97GSX with N1 downpipe with N1 Exhaust and it elminates the cat, Still have the 02 sensor in place, No CEL's yet been runnin for over 6 months. Loud and Proud

I ran catless back in the US for years, nothing ever happened to me. Friend of mine though ran catless and we were at the illegals (night races) in Seattle one night and a cop caught him for racing and they had some kind of "modification task force" out there, and the cops ticketed him $4500 (OUCH) for not having a cat. He got that part of the ticket dropped by adding a cat and taking pictures to the judge. So even if you get caught, you most likely won't have to pay the fine, but God help your wallet if you have to.

I hate my CEL, but I suck so bad with wiring none of that vfaq made any sense to me! I need pictures or I cant do anything. Anybody know where I could find a description with pics?? I know nothing about Ohms or splitting wires and blah blah blah.
