Just picked up my 1995 gsx and on the ride home my rear bushings went and the car was like driving a car on an icerink. But that problem has been solved already with a new set of bushings.. However the car when it is in 3rd 4th or 5th if i press the gas pedal in more than 30% it just jerks really bad. The motor runs great but I think it is just starving for fuel. The tranny is in excellent shape, so i know its not the tranny. It just has a nasty jerking motion when it is in like I said 3,4,5. I believe the car has a problem with getting enough fuel. Thats what it feels like at least. Since I believe it is running super lean. how should I go about solving that problem? Clean the injectors. Check the fuel pump.. etc.. Need some input from you all. Thanks alot. :dsm: :thumb:

The problem you're experiencing could be fuel or spark related. I would start by making sure you have the right plugs in the car (NGKBPR7ES gapped to .028), If the plug wires haven't been changed in a while do that as well as replacing the fuel filter. The symptoms you describe don't seem to be the result of fuel cut, but at the same time, you could be experiencing boost leaks which bring un-metered air into the system. So, let's sum up:

New plugs (and don't get anything "fancy" since those NGK's are perfect for the car)
New wires
Boost leak test.

I would START with that and then get back to us and let us know if it helped.

This will be a deinate noobie question. How should I do a boost leak test. Just listen for a leak somewhere? I believe I do have a leak somewhere because the stock boost gauge even though it is a huge pile is showing that I never really get alot of boost, it doesnt feel like im boosting, and gauge goes into the boost level about 15% when the car is floored. And I cant even hear the stock bov. Which i know isnt loud, but my buddy has a stock gst and you can definatly hear his. So I guarentee I have a boost leak. But like I said befor how do I test and how do I know what vac line to replace. I already ordered the hose techniques 2g vac line kit so that should do the trick once I find the problem. :dsm: :thumb: For some odd reason even though the car has problems I still love the damn thing. Like all of you guys have said, all these cars do is eat away all your cash but you just cant stop fixing and modding. LOL

Stock are BPR6ES. No need to go colder at this point. And to check if you are lean, look at your plugs. What color are they? White = lean, black and sooty = rich, slightly tan = just right.

You can find information on boost leak testing here:

I really think your problem is more spark or fuel related. I would check the plugs as the previous poster mentioned and see if you really are running lean. If you're on the stock turbo, he's right, you can stay with the 6ES plugs. My car had a lot of the same symptoms when I bought it and one of the main issues is that the previous owner used platinum plugs (a definite no-no). Check and replace the plugs and wires and see if that solves your issues and then move on to boost leak testing.

P.S. Make sure you get a REAL boost gauge. The stock unit is garbage and really doesn't tell you much.
