Hey guys i just got another Greddy type rs BOV from dejon because my previous one would not seal properly and wouldn't hold any boost. Anyway, I just got the new one and looks great and looks like it is sealed properly. Should i put some RTV on the BOV gasket so that it doesn't leak? I did this on my previous BOV and i am wondering if this is a reason for the BOV not closing properly. That is why i am asking before i put this new one on. Also, should do a boost leak test before or after i test drive the car with the new BOV on the car? I know i am supposed to do a boost leak test when the car is warm but i just wanted to check with you guys before hand. Thanks in advance

You can use a small amount of RTV on the gasket surfaces, just don't go overboard. The only time it can become a problem is if you put so much on it that it squeezes in and interferes with the valve seating surface. I recently pulled off my BOV and tore the gasket, so now it's only being sealed with RTV. It has held just fine.

I would recommend running the engine for a little bit before leak testing if it hasn't been run for a while. This would just be to avoid any problems with oil seals and the like. You don't have to drive it around anywhere, though.

Use RTV OR a gasket. Don't use both. It defeats the purpose of using the gasket if you put RTV on it.

Good point, Luke. In reality, you shouldn't have to use both to get a good seal, because they both are intended to perform the same function. The excusable exception to this seems to be a Greddy valve on a 1G flange, as described on the vfaq article: http://herpetology.com/dsm/bov.html

To the OP, sorry for the conflicting information. If you have the proper flange, your gasket should be fine by itself.

Alright, awesome! This is they exact information that i wanted. You guys are awesome. I would give some rep points for you guys, but it looks like you guys have plenty already and have upgraded to STARS!!!:D Thanks again!
