Routing IC pipes through rad support by coolant can

Anyone run their IC pipes through the radiator support where the catch can usually goes (usually done with the spearco FMIC's with both outlets on the same side like used in the GN's for years)

I've seen it done but never on stock fans, was wondering if anyone had a pic before i start welding elbows on my turbo and what not...

basically the turbo routes upwards and towards the passenger side, then goes next to the radiator through the support to the FMIC's upper inlet for thosae who haven't seen it

I'm running the SSAC kit. It has nothing to do with what fans you have as it goes through next to the radiator (unless you're talking about the other side, that would depend on the turbo outlet whether the fans would be in the way or not). I was running it with my 16G and now with a freshly installed Holset.

well, the only car i've been up close with that has this routing is using an aluminum radiator and has pusher fans mounted on the front of the ocndensor and then a very very slim set of pulling fans on the radiator backside, with his the clearnace is close but i'm just eyeballing my turbo and the piece of pipe on it's way to where it goes through the rad support and notice that i'm going to need to angle it back somewhat and make a curve slightly sharper than 90*

I'm ripping the front end apart to put a new left headlight in and reweld some better mounts on the core so at the same time i want to put in my new N/T water pipe that has the cooling line for the turbo welded in closer to the pump and has the "T" section for the throttle body lines deleted from it.

At the same time ii'm pulling my turbo off to change the exhaust housing and sandblast the rust off the CHRA ( yes i know how to prooperly protect it for sandblasting )

but my main goal in all of it is to run the IC pipes in a new direction while converting more of them to aluminum so i can mount my new HUGE BOV (the mount is AL ) And if i have enough silicone couplers i'm going to mount a 1g N/T throttle body at the same time (lots saved up projects i'm trying to complete) AAAAND.... If i have enough time i was going to fiberglass some scoops tog get more air around the FMIC and to the radiator

My only real issue is that my N2o and W/I AND IAT sensor are all located in the 2g TB elbow, so i think the only thing left to do is mill a small flat plate to weld into the upper IC pipe similar to the vacum/boost ports on a SMIM

well, 12 hours later and i finally finished both cars i had to do today built IC pipes for a mazda MX3 and then used all tyhe left over aluminum and my new BOV to make my new IC piping.. welded a 90* elbow to the turbo after cutting the outlet off, then routed the pipes through the radiator support to the top of the FMIC, then the bottom pipe from the core comes up through the spot by the fuse box and is all alumimnum and only used 5 clamps total 2 at each IC inlet/outlet, 1 at the TB elbow, one where the pipe comes through the body by the fuse box and oneto make the 90* for the upper pipe to go through the radiator support.

Pretty proud of it, changed the oil and put the bumper on and called it a night... I even changed water pipes to the new one i welded a fitting in close to the water pump but wouldn't ya know it still made the fitting hit the block but a little massaging and it all fit perfect

ended up mounting the BOV on the UICP and although the FMIC is a taf crooked i can fix it tomorrow, my big thing is that i changed the turbine housing from a .48 to a .63 to hopefully gain some top end, the .48 was holding back so much heat it was the first garrett housing i've seen crank on the inside

but the new parts (and all mtching and larger IC poipes should make for a nice improvement in power and spool i'm hoping , we will see tomorrow

Well, here's it all done and ready to be cleaned up and polished (it was 1am when we finished doing 2 cars and i was ready for bed so it had to wait )

I welded a 90* elbow on the turbo housing, then used a bunch of pieces of 2.5'' Aluminum pipes (much of it scraps from customer jobs actually) And had it not been for the cusotmer who came to get his car done deciding to just make it a day of helping each other i probably wouldn't even have gotten this far in one night ( i was in a lot of pain from my injuries)

I also changed the turbine housing from a .48 to a .63 (not sure how there was a .48 on there but it was 10 years ago when i mounted it up and was changing housings looking for the best spool possible) and MAN o MAN was the .48 holding back some power, even at the same and less boost levels i'm pulling HARD! I need to log some 70-90 times but they seem to be under a second or just at one in the logs i took tonight

I even threw in a few extra pics since photobucket is down tonight, my mini-pin next to my 1/4 scale sand buggy, with custom case reed induction engine that i build cylinders and such for for others too... you can see i block the weedeater jug intake and then carve two more transfger ports in there, then match some windows in the piston to work with them.. a bit off topic but thought some might like it (plus the dog is just cute as can be )

I've still got a few things to do such as finish the cold air intake by getting the filter out from behind the radiator fan, I've got all the 4'' pipe for it and bends but was just oo tired and burned up my argon on a pool ladder i built for a guys boat dock these last few days as well, will post pics when it's done as well

Well, I'm not trying to bump my own thread or toot my opwn horn, but i just have to share... I've been tuning on the new bigger turbine housing and the now all matching and shorter route 2.5 AL piping at only 20psi on E85 (running about 12.5:1 and 20 through 24* timing) And with the large 225/60/16 tires this thing is one scary ass ride, those tires are floating all over like when you're shutting down on slicks at the 1320

Even way untuned and missing/false knocking badly last night i hit 32 PSI and pulled to 8600 in third gear logging it and MY GOD, 5k to 7500 came within 6/10th's of a second (i'm sure it was spinning though)

I can't believe i some how overlooksed that restrictive ass turbine housing for SOOoo long and am just finally unlocking the power of my now beat down compressor wheel Wish i had a new one to throw on there, cause it was the larger housing way back 10 years ago i made the most power on and now that corn fuel is so abundant i'm sure i could get 450+ out of it with some fine tuning

well, don't wanna sit here and sound like i'm braggin, just have no one else to share it with

Hey thanks andy! Ya know for as long as i've been able to TIG at all instead of making AL bird poop , it's amazing how far you can come and how fast when you actually own your machine instead of working off other peoples stuff all the time.. Funny thing was back when i got my DYnasty I could lay some of the most beautifull MIG beads you've seen without even looking and was so-so at TIG and now i don't really care if my mask is too dark, or what's going on around me TIG'ing i can jsut puddle up and go but i MIG'ed a muffler on a maxima today and just had to sit back and say WTF happened when i stopped to lift my mask

but i just love doing it, i'm trying to get an investor to back me on a tool and die machine shop that the owner has offered to sell me since a patented dental invention of his just went global with distribution. He knows how i love metal and he did too when he bought the place but now he just wants to sit back and draw residuals and i wanna buy his shop, add an 8x8 waterjet and grow some mail order internet business and do some rediculouse stuff on the local level as well... it's got nice CNC 5 axis mill, 2 bridgeports with DRO and 2 nice huge lathes with DRO's as well and enhough extra bays to build cars in the "spare rooms" I'm gonna move into it if i get it and jkust live there... i'll be loading blocks into the CNC all night long, napping between pieces being cut that is my dream

I have both my pipes routed to the passenger side like that (knockoff Greddy core) and its pretty nice. Nothing to worry about on the drivers side Although I do have my hotpipe running under the intake tube and straight back instead of over to the side in the fender like yours. I used to have mine run through the fender to, but I changed it because I think it looks a little cleaner like that. And also neglected to block off the hole because I thought it would get more cool air like that....well turns out it makes it easier for the engine to suck up water when the county decides to block off the sewer drains. .
