I have been on a quest for 500whp but instead of going up in hp after each seemingly upgrade I was constantly loosing hp each time I visited the dyno: confused:! To make a long story short I started to notice that my dipstick began to pop out and also a stream of smoke coming from my pcv valve. I automatically new what the problem was excessive blow-by. So off came the head and out came the pistons. I put my skills to work and rehoned the cylinders and put in a new set of Ross pistons and rings:cool: But my concern is what caused the damage to my old Ross pistons. The compression rings in all of the pistons was somewhat stuck in the ring land causing excessive compression lost. My theory, and I stand corrected, is that piston damage probably was caused by excessive heat from lean condition of running high boost on E-85 with too small of injectors. Set up Borg Warner s259 880cc injectors. I have noticed several times duty cycle just on the dyno hit 110%:shhh:! I had no idea that it was building so much heat so as to damage the crown of my pistons. Here are some pics of new pistons and the damaged ones I took out. I am open for all theories and suggestions. In the meantime I will be switching back to C16 93 mix until I get bigger injectors.

100% that was caused by a dangerously lean condition. You need to upgrade to something bigger than 1000s for 500hp. 1000s are only good for 450 or so. Goodluck!

That looks like detonation. I see you were on e85 but did you ever get knock?

That's the problem hardly ever knocked:confused: even when it went lean. I will be changing the knock sensor while i am in the rapair mode:D

Do you have a wideband installed? If so what afr were you running with the e85?
