Hey guys,

Anyone in canada with a roll cage that drives on the street...?

I have a cage and no insurance companys will insure my car to drive on the street because of it. I am in Alberta...Anyone actually tell the insurance company about the cage. I am being told i cannot have a car that has a cage and is raced annnnd drive it on the street. One or the other, not both.

Any help/thoughts here would be appeciated!

Thanks

Tell your insurance compnay its a street car.. Then after they insure it take it to the track, autocross or where every the hell you want just my 2 cents. Also when dealing with the insurance company... Go with the policy of... If they dont ask, Then i wont tell.. LOL

If anything the car is safer with the cage...

But if they don't ask don't tell. :thumb:

Not sure about BC, but in Ontario you have to take it into a place of their choosing and they have a once over on it.

Um... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that would void the insurance if anything happened, such as a fender bender. Once the claims reporter comes out and checks the damage and sees the permanent roll cage, I think they'd say it voided the policy and that you're sh** out of luck. So if you don't care about that, go for it and just don't tell them about it

This is the issue. If i just dont tell them and i actually end up in an accident. The insurance is void.

There must be a way. I know there are lots of people cruisin around with a roll cage. So annoying. The more i look into this the more it seems like people just lie about it... seems pretty sketchy to me!

There are a LOT of caged cars on here. Someone in canada must know a way to make this work.

Cheers guys...i appreciate the thoughts.

Only if you wear a helmet everywhere you go.

This.

OP-If there isn't a clause in the insurance policy saying you CAN'T have a cage, than just don't disclose it. If you get into an accident, tell them you added it after the insurance was issued. If there is nothing in the policy not covering a caged car, than I don't think they would have a legal leg to stand on. Unless of course a pre-insurance inspection is required... But I do belive failure to disclose this type of information crosses the fine line of insurance fraud?

Best of luck!

Couldnt agree more!! cage is a dangerous thing on the street with no padding or helmet, esp in a crash, although i have a full 8.50 cert cage in my car and i just have broadform insurance, my license is insured so i can drive anything

I drove on the street with a cage for 2 years.. it sucks. With a kirkey seat mounted on the floor, my head is still very close to the roof (im a tall guy), and if I swing my head far left it hits the bar. If I was ever in a side impact collision my head would hit that bar and probably cause brain damage. Its very dangerous without a helmet.

Everyones car that has it insured in Canada, Im willing to bet their insurance company has no idea their car is even modified, let alone having a cage.

Insurance changes so much from province to province.
However, the only way to get it all covered is to have an appraisal done and get insurance that way. This will likely cost more and have some restrictions (can only put on so much mileage per year).

Not telling your insurance company about something is a good way to have your coverage denied in an accident.

ICBC has a separate insurance policy called modified. If it is that big of a deal you can have it insured that way. You may require it to be inspected, but as long as its mechanically safe you should have no problem. I wouldn't have told them about it. Was it ICBC directly or the autoplan broker? use a different broker and say nutzing!

Agreed, which is why I have a roll bar for my current car. It's not worth the risk people. If you enjoy driving you car on the street, then dont get a full cage. If you want a weekend warrior, then put a roll bar in the car. If you want a race car, then put a full cage in the car. This is the reason my chassis guy talked me out of putting a full cage in my car. I also didn't install the chute done either, as it no longer made since with out the cage. I guess i'll keep the boost down to stay under that 135mph, so I dont get kicked out this year. FYI, I'll be happy running the 10.50 index class at a few events.:aha:

I Talked to my insurance provider today, and I was told the same thing by State Farms underwriters. No nitrous, rollbar, or cages are permitted in the vehicle. If that's the case, I won't be putting any bars in my car. As for all the aftermarket stuff. I was told to bring it in, and bring receipts. I'll post up what other procedures I had to follow once everythingin ensured. He asked all that I had done and I basically told him.
