Rod Knock or Not?

One day I was driving home from work and my oil hose to my oil pump came off. All the oil drained out of the engine. So basically the motor shut down due to lack of oil. I took off the head and luckily only the cams scraped on the bearings,so a cam bolt came off, thus making the engine shut off, so the cam gear came off. I got the head rebuilt (new cams, rockers, etc.) I started it up and it ran fine. (The only thing I had to do was tune the AFC.) Now is it possible for a rod bearing to be sprung (rod knock) without hearing it? Now I lifted the car up on stands and I heard a hissing noise coming from the oil pan. Is it possible that it's the beginning of a rod knock? Any help is appreciated.
 
If you pumped all the oil out of the motor and ran it for any duration.......I would seriously consider taking the pan off for inspection. Rod knock is a result of engine clearances that have grown so big that parts collide and make a knocking sound. The noise you describe would make me look at my bearings.....actually I would look at them regardless especially on a 2g that is already prone to premature thrust failures (crank walk). Just my $.02
 
i had my block swaped out to a 6 bolt. 6 bolts have beefier :mad: bearings. but nonthless i guess its probally better if i change the bearings. how much would that run me? they can be replaced by just removing the oil pan right? it would really suck if i had to pull the motor out.
 
Its not that easy......if you spun a bearing you can bet you damaged a journal. That means you would have to pull the crank and have it ground. Chances are you will be pulling the motor if it gets to that. You may be able to inspect it and find out that nothing is wrong, but if you find out that theres bad bearings get ready to rebuild your motor. Most times when you run a motor out of oil really bad things happen everywhere. I don't want you to think that I know your motor has been damaged, but if it were my car I would be very concerned. I wouldn't drive it or even run it unless you know for sure that its OK.
