Revised 7 bolt in a 2Ga

Okay, I've been reading threads for a while today while at work and now that I'm home and none of them just seem to quite answer my questions.

Goal : I am planning on sticking with a 7 bolt for my first 7 bolt build. All I've owned before now were 6 bolt powered cars and the swap is pretty straight forward. From my understanding this should be as well - save for I don't plan on swapping in a full longblock. I am picking up a Revised 7 bolt block and will build it in hopes of pulling my engine, dropping my head from my 95 7 bolt on, and then drop this combo into the car, hook everything up, and go.

Concerns :

1 : My 7 bolt does not have a CAS, period. If I perform this swap, do I retain my original Crank and Cam sensors? Will the crank sensor have a placement on the Revised 7 bolt block? Will I need to rewire anything or will it be a direct bolt on and drop in?

2 : Should I run into any odd circumstances with mounts, head ports/holes/alignments not matching up due to year specific differences? (Being an early 2G head on a late 2G block.)

This is the brunt of my concern. Everything else, of course, will be year specific such as timing components, water/oil pumps, etc. I just don't want to go diving into this and find out that I have to rewire in a CAS, the plugs for a different knock sensor, etc. I'm very 7-bolt illiterate, so I felt that this is very Newbie Section deserving.

95's cas is behind the intake cam gear. The blocks are identical other than the cranks setup. If using the 2ga head then the cas will stay the same, the crank sensor is same aswell.

Awesome deal. The last thing I want to do is wiring conversions because of the crank sensor being incompatible between the early and later years.
 
You don't have to wire anything. The 2ga and 2gb both use the same crank sensor. The cam sensor location is what is different. If you are using the 2g wiring harness and ecu than use the 2ga cam sensor, if you are using the 2gb harness and ecu than use the 2gb cam sensor. Everything will plug in and bolt together just like your old motor came out. The only thing different is the thrust bearing design.

This is what I was hoping to hear - that the blocks were pretty much identical besides the thrust bearing. :thumb:
