I'm thinking about getting an eclipse gst that supposedly needs head work. I can get a newly reman head for about 400, but it's a stock one and if that's not all that's wrong with the car I'm going to just pull the engine and start from scratch. Now, I've been out of the game for a bit with these cars, and the only engines I've ever built that i had bored out were carbed gm 350s for dirt track cars, so I was wondering what would be a good bore for this engine and what kind of head work would I need to do to it to have the ecu not hate me. if anyone could point me in the right direction or if the opinion is to just keep it stock bore with better pistons let me know your thoughts...

the stock bore is just fine, as this is a turbocharged engine displacement isnt always the better solution, boost is. The stock head should be just fine unless your goals are in the 400-500 whp range. The stock pistons are pretty strong but it might not be enough. that all depends on your goals. 3-400 is a good range for stock pistons. This is also about the most you wanna run on a FWD setup because anything more than that it gets really hard to put it to the ground.
