Alright so my spare motor I picked up jumped time and some valves hit some pistons. I picked up another head and its #2 cylinder valves hit the pistons.

I want to try and salvage some good valves from my bad head and get this better head running,

do i have to find 2 good intake and 2 good exhaust valves? or are they the same? I know how to check them for warpage, and i got a machine shop to install them for me, i just need to make sure i get the right valves to the machine shop.

Is it that easy? just pulling some valves from one head and putting them in another? All the heads I've ever had were good and I didn't have to work on them.

thanks

Yes, you need 2 of EACH. Make sure you mark down which is which as well for reference at the machine shop. You'll need to get the new valves seated into the head you are using and if you bent your valves, get the valve guides checked to make sure they aren't damaged too.

alright ill just take both heads to the machine shop and let them swap them out. thanks

You would be best off just dropping both heads off at the machine shop. Unless you modify/make a special attachment, the standard valve spring compressor wont work with the 4g63 head. Your machinist will check the valves for straightness, regrind the face, and grind the seats in the head. As liquid said, you need him to check your guides to make sure they arent cracked.

does it matter that my donor valves are coming from a 91 galant head, and my car is a 91 tsi. I didnt think it would just wanted to make 100% sure before i take them,

the valves are the same, both the 1g and 2g, turbo or NA (non-Turbo) they will swap around
since you have bent valves , good chance you will need guide work from them cracking..

since they will be doing a valve job, have them check the springs also

some tech info on springs

the head will probly need to be surfaced.....

do NOT let them belt surface the head....

and you may want to do this oil mod....

also you may ask about having this done to your valves....

i just bought all new valves, im not taking any chances.

what valves? most aftermarket OE replacement valves weigh appox 3g more than a stock mitsu valve... and alot of them may be a 2 piecie design also.. I personally do not like them in a turbo app.

an inexpensive stainless steel valve comes from Engbldr on ebay, and the +1mm are the same price.. I have had good luck with these valves in both turbo and NA apps

I bought them from a very reputable shop (Birmingham Piston) here in Alabama, I was a manager for a parts store and have seen many reliable parts come from theses guys. I have never used their valves but ill just have to see once they come in

edit: Also this is not a performance build, its a stock rebuild for daily drive with just ARP hardware

i understand that this is not a proformance build....

but i have found that sometimes it is just as cost efftive to get the stainless than the oe replacements

The valves are Elgin.

I am just going to replace everything in the head, I will see if the parts store will send the part back and me just cover the shipping cost, Ill try and get a supertech kit or something, but right now I have to goto work thanks for the help.

keep s posted how this works out for you

I slapped valves too. I have a random head in my garage and they said 6T on them so I'm reusing them. Except my buddy cleaned up the head well and he's grinding them. I believe the head on my car is a 1g 7bolt and the valves I used from the random head was a 6 bolt head.
