the little blue filter thing on the valve cover, what are they and what di they do, i saw them at autozone and advence auto and couldn't figure it out, idk maybe im stupid. its on a 420a engine
 
Its a crankcase breather filter, there is usually a line that connects back to the intake, but some people just put a small filter on them.
 
Might I ad its the improper way to VENT the crankcase pressure. You must have vacuum of some sort and if you have enough blowby these filters will "puke" oil or splatter all over the bay not to mention put off toxic gases that can sometimes be smelt inside the car. :barf:
