[RESOLVED] what is this gasket called?

when taking apart the bottom end, after you take the timing belt off there is like a aluminum piece that goes on the front of the block that has to come off to get the crankshaft out. I cant find anywhere that names what its called and I need a new gasket for it

yeah, pretty much...just make sure when you purchase them you get them both, ive seen them sold seperatly

If they do come separately, you need a front case gasket and an oil pump(oil case) gasket.

Depending on mileage you may want to replace the front case as well . However it is expensive but vital to the car .

I posted a link to extemepsi.com's 7-bolt front case gasket in my first post, just click the blue letters that say "front case", but if you need a whole new front case try this link.

The front case houses the oil pump. Like Ben said, it's an expensive but vital part. I'd replace it to be safe. While you're at it you might want to consider a Balance Shaft Elimination kit, good peace of mind and will only cost you about $42, check the vfaq.com writeup for pics and instructions on the BSE kit. Don't buy from a dealership, you'll pay much more for the same thing if you do. Extremepsi doesn't sell the parts as a kit, or if they do I can't seem to find it, if you wanted to make it one stop shopping you'd have to piece together the parts separately from them.
