I know some of the bolt lengths are different, but as for size and location Im not possitive. I know it is mentioned somewhat in the timing belt install vfaq as I was reading it last night as I was doing my install. Your probably better off buying the correct one unless you can get one for free and just try it.

I'm not sure about 1g 6 bolt and 7 bolt, they mey fit each other. But 2g 7 bolts have a different 3 peice timing cover, not just an upper and a lower like the 6 bolts.

I have the same problem. The 1g cover I am trying to use is not matching up with my 1g engine with a 2g motor mount. Should I try to modify the cover where the motor mount is or would it fit with a 2g lower cover?

There are 3 different covers. 1g 6 bolt, 1g 7bolt and 2g 7bolt.

The 1g seven bolt cover has an extra bolt hole compared the the 1g six bolt cover. The 1g seven bolt cover requires some modification by the oil filter housing to fit a six bolt also. I had one on my car for a while until I found a decent six bolt cover.
