[RESOLVED] Steering causes RPM's to jump at idle

Okay, so when I idle and I move my steering wheel right or left, my rpm gauge jumps from approx. 700 to 1100 rpm. I don't think this is right. Anyone?

The RPM's jump because your power steering pump is connected by a belt to your crankshaft. When you turn the wheel left and right, you put a strain on the engine, so to maintain idle and give extra power to the steering pump, the idle is temporarily raised. This happens to all cars and is more noticeable on 4 cylinder engines because they have a smaller output at lower RPM's compared to V8's.

Sorry if that was confusing, but your situation is perfectly normal. It happens to me and my friends too.
