[RESOLVED] snapped stud on 14b

the stud on my turbo where it mounts to the manifold is snapped. its basically flat so theres no chance of twisting it out. what kind of drill/bit will i need to pull it out? i killed 3 titanium bits already so thats out of the question.

Get that extractor called grabit, or bring it to the machine shop and they will charge you like $10

Put it in a vice then get either a carbide or a cobalt drill bit and drill it out. Then re tap it. The size tap you will need will be a 10mm x 1.25

I vote machine shop. Ran into this problem myself and it suuuuucked. However I finally got it with vice grips the next day after my pb blaster soaked in. Either way, good luck.

Yeah them studs are case hardened.Royal pain,As Imback Said get your self a Cobalt Drill bit that will drill threw it then just re tap it.Or just drill it with the bit that's just a little bit smaller then the stud and use a chisel and try to chop out the rest of it without messing the threads up.Takes a little bit of effort to do it but I've seen it done on the same studs

If you can get the manifold off you will have room to twist it out. 3 bolts left holding the turbo to the manifold is not that big of a deal, you could just leave it alone. I only had 2 holding on my talon for quite a while. One snapped on my eclipse when I pulled the manifold to port it and I just left it also.

Take it to a machine shop. I hate dealing with broke bolts that you can't get vicegrips on...

a couple tips I've found useful.. use a center punch and a hammer in the center of the bit your wish to extract, the impact of a hammer may loosen the stuck bit, combined with penetrating oil.. all else fails use a torch, heat it up red hot and let it cool a few times, more hammering, more oil, and then a bit extractor as a finishing move, whooBLAM.. you could always drill it out and re-tap but its tricky (use lots of oil while drilling or you'll go through drill bits like a mother)
