[RESOLVED] question about the block

Today i noticed,that i got a hole in the back of the block,which has threads in it.And you could see the crankshaft through it.so thanks god that i looked at it while i was replacingg a knock sensor.otherwise i would be having a huge oil leak from that unknown hole .Does anyone know ,what is that hole for??? thanks....

where you put the screw driver to keep the motor tdc? only thing i can think of (without going out and looking at min)

that hole is to get to tell were the balance shaft is at when you are doing the timing.

so what is has to go there??? a bolt??? or what?? when i took the block out,nothing was there....

yea, im pretty sure a short bolt goes in there to keep oil from spitting out.

That hole is to lock the balance shaft in place so that the oil pump driven gear may be removed from the end of the balance shaft.

A screwdriver is easy to grab, but anything long enough with a shaft diameter less than 8mm will fit, the plug which should be in that hole is an 8mm. It's not really a good idea to depend on it to hold the engine in position. -If I remember correctly, there is still some play in the balance shaft. It just butts up against the flat "blade" part of the balance shaft so the shaft can't turn.

My Both balance shafts are removed,so if im getting right,i just need to buy a short bolt,apply some Grey Permatex,and screw it down right???

Yes, if the B shafts are out, there's no real need for access to that hole. The oil pump driven gear just bolts to the stubby in your BSE kit.
