[RESOLVED] Need new Rotors, Pads, and Calipers

I was told by a mechanic friend that I should replace my rotors, pads and calipers. The rotors appear to be too small for my stock calipers/pads because part of the pads are extended past the rotors and I get a bad squealing at times when braking and slight wobbling.

I'm wondering if I really need to replace the calipers because I really don't want to have to bleed the brakes since it's a two man job. Do you think its necessary or how can I tell?

Also I've been doing some reading about which rotors to get and according to this article What Kind of Rotors Should I Get? it seems like cross drilled was for pads from the 40's and 50's to relieve the gases produced but thats not a problem with todays pads. I've also read the cracking stories and it appears that nascar and F1 don't use cross drilled and I figure they do all the research and studies and know whats best.

Does anyone have a recommendation on where to buy the rotors, pads and possibly calipers? I don't want to go all out and spend alot of $$ but I definitely don't want to cheap out on one of the most important parts of the car.

any off the vendors off the site. If it sweeks or wobbles there more than likely warped, or the pads are gone. If theres groves in the rotors then they need replaces or turned, and cleaned to a flat surface. I like hawk pads, will ss lines with slotted rotors but thats just my opion, it all depends on what you want to spend.

For a stock setup, I would recommend a set of RotorPros Rotors - Check out MAPerformance.com. Those rotors have a SPECTACULR price on them right now - something like $200 for all FOUR corners. You can buy them blank all the way up to slotted, drilled, and zinc coated. I prefer slotted only, as you maintain the structural integrity of the rotor by not having them drilled.

I agree with the guy above me when he mentions Hawk pads. They are a bit pricey, but very nice quality. Also, stainless steel lines was a good add but I don't believe they are absolutely necessary right off the bat.

And I would make sure the calipers are SHOT before you replace them. Chances are, they're not shot. They might just need a GOOD cleaning, a repaint in the color of your choice, and a caliper rebuild kit from Autozone, which will run you approximately $15-20 each. <--The price is to the best of my knowledge and I know that the fronts are a tad bit more expensive than the rears. No worries, it's not going to break the bank for you. I remember being pretty excited after researching this and discovering that I would be able to rebuild all four corners for a very affordable price.

I would recommend napa stock rotors and any pad that isn't ceramic.
Personally I don't like drilled or slotted rotors because you can't resurface them and once you get them down too thin..you have to buy new ones. And as for ceramic pads, they have been under investigation because on some brands they have actually warped the rotor instead of help keep heat in.

sounds like someone put the small version of our rotors on your gsx? at least you bought a good setup to replace it and from a good shop. you will be very pleased with your choice. dont forget to buckle up when you brake from now on. LoL
