I have a block that I got from a guy who says it's a 6 bolt block, and although it came with a six bolt crank, the front crank seal and oil pump gaskets are off of a 1g seven bolt. Is there anyway to tell if the block was originally a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt? maybe by using the numbers stamped on the block under 4g63???

Does it have an oilpan? Because on the 6 bolts the pan looking at it from the drivers side the pan comes straight down, in a 7 bolt theres a curve like bump. I know vfaq had a writeup on this. I don't know how to tell if there isnt a pan. Anyone Else chime in???

main bearing surface is bigger on 6bolt so see were im going check your 6 bolt crank to the surface of the block you got

Look on the crank and see how many bolt holes there are to bolt on the flywheel?

so the deal is it came with a 6 bolt crank, but the oil pan has a hump in it and the gasket set for oil pump doesn't fit for a 90 model, 94 model or 96 model eclipse...the closest one was off of a 90 model, but the actual gasket for the pump was missing holes for the allignment studs...so I don't know what to think of it...any ideas?

I think you forgot to read the entire post.

From what I know there are differences in the main bearing sizes. If its a 6 bolt crank the journals should line up with the bearings on the block. If not it would not fit.

Think you might have your dates about 5 years off...7 bolts were from 93-99.

I believe he was saying that in relation to the 1g 7 bolt.

Either way, 7 bolts were from 92.5 until 99.

I believe you could also check the head stud holes in the block. The 7 bolt studs are 11mm and the 6 bolt studs are 12mm.
