What makes the hood pop up when you pull on the hood release? Is there supposed to be some kind of spring action? Its kinda annoying making it a 2 man job.

Behind the lever there is a steal cable that runs along the driver side of the engine bay, the cable is tucked away good. Then it leads in front of the bumper to the large device that hold the hood shut, it consists of a lever that the when the handle is pulled it releases the metal bar on the hood letting it pop up but it is still secure. Try opening the hood and spraying the hood release with WD-40 it may be suck.

I don't know about 1g's, but on 2g's we have 4 "cushions" down near the front of the hood. I had to adjust mine to get the hood to sit more flush with the fenders and by adjusting them it made the hood pop open harder and softer. If you even have cushions like I do, try adjusting them so they sit higher.

There are 2 springs on the latch. The lower (small) spring is used to pull the release handle back to the stowed position. The upper spring (much larger) is used to spring the hood out of the latch. some how it has come disconnected or snapped. If it just has to be rehooked its a cheep and simple fix. If the spring has snapped or linkage bent any 90>94 E/L/T in a junk yard uses the same latch.
