I wanted a little more umph in my sound and bought the sony xplod gt420ip head unit. Well after everything is put back together I find out that it won't play cds or my ipod(has dedicated ipod cable built in). What could cause this?

EDIT:Sorry, I was tired from coming straight home from work and going to put this in and didn't have dinner but the head unit turns on and the tuner works just fine, all the stations come in load and clear. But when I switch to cd or ipod I can select the tracks and know its playing because the equalizer bars are moving but I hear nothing. I tried resetting it and turning the volume of the hu and ipod up and down, still no change.

Ok so I just got off the phone with Sony support(some indian guy with broken english) and he told me to interchange the blue/white wire with the solid blue one, the amp turn-on and the power antenna? He couldn't tell me anymore because he didn't know, he just read the directions off the screen. So after work tonite I'm goin to try that, about 8 o clock. What do you guys think of switching these wires? I'm not to sure of it though. So I'm gonna call some more places for their opinion in addition.

It sounds like you've either got some wires switched or unconnected. If the player is reading the cd, playing the tracks and everything is hooked up correctly then there is no reason for it to not play. Is the unit under warrenty? If so try getting a new one. The unit could just be bad.

Well all the cables are deffinatetly pluged in, except for an orange illumination wire which my adapter didn't have. I have the two RCA cables plugged into the back of the head unit but not into the sub amp yet. I haven't had time to put those in yet because of work. Could those two rca cables be the reason the cd and ipod player doesnt work? I know it's hard to diagnose a problem without seeing it but I'm just gathering as much info as possible for when I do everything else tomorrow. BTW I finally left a note on a GST thats been sitting in this guys driveway for a couple years under some pine trees. I'd like to buy it if it's not too much work and make a profit from it when I'm done for a better car.

yeah disconnect those, i did that with my pioneer deh-4700mp and i had the same issue, you need a speaker reducer, it takes ## rear speakers and reduces them to rca's, any stereo shop has them for about 20 bucks.

If the deck is powering your speakers, and you said the radio works and you hear it, the rcas to your future sub amp should have nothing to do with it.

I don't see why you don't hear anything when playing CDs or ## ipod if you hear the radio.

Again those rcas you have connected should have nothing to do with why you have no sound, and for some strange reason it does, which i highly doubt, I will be very shocked.

Summar plain and simple, if you hear sound when your using the radio, you should hear sound from your other sources, aka CD/ipod.

Also, the blue and blue/white wire have nothing to do with that also, thats as they said amp turn on and power antenna. If you have your sub and sub amp hooked up and its not working, THEN you would check those wires, but right now, those have nothing to do with it as well.

Your deck might be faulty, switch it.

I got this fixed as soon as I slid the head unit back out of the car. My friend was helping me put this in and while he was wiring I was running the wire through the dash, well it turns out that we had the power antenna and amp turn on wires wired together. I guess when we were initially matching the wires since all four of the bule were right next to eachother it looked as though they were connected blue to blue blue/white to blue/white. Thanks for the responses.
