I remember when I first bought mine that the FP gauge that cam w/ the kit read dead nuts w/ the advance auto gauge I was using before I bought the regulator. This is now off by 7 psi. I have to set that gauge to 30psi to have the gauge that I KNOW is acurate to read 37.5 psi.

Also It used to rise exactly 1:1 w/ my boost. Now I can hit 15psi but the acurate fuel pressure gauge reads 50 psi. Which turns out that the Aeromotive regulator is only rising the fuel pressure 13 psi.

Is this something that anyone else has noticed to develop w/ Aeromotive regulators over time? I can certainly tune around this. 2-3 psi of fuel pressure is not much to worry about. But, I'm wondering if my FPR is showing signs of eventual failure. . .

FPR are very simple devices and as far as I have seen areomotive makes one of the best ones out there.
Check to make sure your not leaking any boost pressure out the regualtor adjuster threads. I use telon tape on mine to keep me happy. As far as the gauge goes the little ones you get are real crap and with engine vibration they go to shit real easly so I just set mine with a known good gauge that stays out of the car and plug the port and forget about it. Check to make shure the little bolts on the regulator are just tight but not real tight were it will cut the dyaprham that regualtes fuel pressure. I have had them apart before and there is nothing to them about 4 pieces thats it.
Make sure you are setting you FP at idle when the engine is HOT and running as the running of the alternator will give the FP a little more voltage but shouldnt matter as long as the battery has 12 volts you can adjust it by just turning the FP on with the motor off to set it.

Yea, I've set it w/ the engien runnign and off and it always showed the same fuel pressure when at idle and vacuume disconnected. I've run man boost leaks and heard or FELT no air escaping from the fuel pressure regulator. . . It is also possible that my fuel pressure gauge has developed some "inacuracy", I suppose.

Good thing FP gauges only cost 20 bucks. Have you also taken apart the AFPR? Which model do you have?

Can't you read you doof! I said Aeromotive! WTF

J/K:p

(see I'm using emoticons. . .OMG LOL )

I don't know which model of in the Aeromotve line that I have. I don't have any of my papers on it. It was sold by ImportEvolution a while back as a 1g kit. Funny how I got a 2g fuel rail fitting for it and had to customize. . . But there are zero leaks. . . Thus my concern.

P.S. the second gauge on that link is the gauge I have. . .(well the face is identical)

Look at the diaphram.
I developed a leak in an older Essex regulator in the diaphram.
Any fuel in the vacuum line?

FWIW, that's what I was implying. Although, I can't officially say "I told you so" if this is the problem. <a href="http://planetsmilies.net" title="skipping smiley"><img src="http://planetsmilies.net/skipping-smiley-1903.gif" alt="http://planetsmilies.net/skipping-smiley-1903.gif" title="skipping smiley" style="border-width:0;"/></a>

I should pull it apart and see what's going on. . .

I suggested this about 4 hours ago. ;)

Even figure out the problem?

I had an AEM regulator years back that was developing problems. I disassembled it and found a small tear in the diaphram. I contacted AEM and they shipped me a replacement diaphram for free.

Damaging the diaphram is not a common problem though. 99% of the time, it will be a defective gauge over a damaged diaphram.

I never found the problem . . . I took the regulator apart. . . My fuel curve when set to stock SEAMS to be inline, rolling out 9.5:1 or so when wide open at peak airflows.

A light rap on the "accurate" fuel pressure gauge showed the problem. It hangs up at around 50 psi. Bump that gauge during full tilt and the hand jumps to about 52.5 psi. 52.5 - 37 = 15.5 psi. My boost level right now.

The gauge that came w/ my aeromotive FPR kit, though inaccurate, is more precise. It shows 30 psi when the fuel pressure is actually 37psi. Then at 15psi it shows 45psi. So it is precise. It just needs to have the scale divisions relabled to be accurate. Since I know 30psi on that gauge equals 37 psi, I don't care :) .

I pulled apart the aeromotive fpr and it seams to be in fine working order.

I am having a similar problem with one in my friend's talon. But we are getting some fuel in the vac line from the nipple on the FPR. Is this definitely a torn diaphragm then?

Dave

More than likely, yes. Pop the top off that regulator and closely inspect the diaphram. If it has any defects, contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
