i have a 1993 eagle talon with a 1992.5 non turbo 4g63 and lately when i start it and head down the road it charges at about 14 volts but when you stop at a red light the voltage drops to about 11 volts till you get going again. then the other night the voltage started vibrating between 11 and 13 volts when running down the road ant the head and instrument lights started flickering all the time. dose any one have any idea what would cause this?

thats ### i waz thinking but could it just be the voltage regulator in the altanator.

It most likely is just the voltage regulator, but good luck finding a new one. Also you could just have some loose battery cables and they are not making good contact with the battery or alternator. I would check those before the drive to the auto parts store just to see what happens.

Voltage regulators are internal in these alternators so it'd require a replacement anyway.

^ exactly, i had this issue last weekend. mine was actually charging my battery at 17.5 volts! and then of course it died out and the logger started showing 11 volts shortly after. replaced the alternator and had the battery checked out, no problems since.

I had a similar issue except the alternator never failed, it just kept charging from 16-18v until it killed my battery and after my ECU started to act a bit zany I finally figured out what was going on and replaced it. That was the 3rd alternator replacement from advanced auto in 3 weeks.

I know that is what I meant by good luck finding a new one. They dont sell em! Well I am sure some company in Japan makes them and you may be able to order one for a high price, but the moral is replace the alternator if it is the problem. Dont forget to check your cables though! No sense in buying an alternator because a cable is loose...
