Rering results before & after

Because of my low compression numbers I decided to rering the engine. I'm posting up the before and after results. This is on 2g pistons/1g rods. Engine was previously rebuilt .040 over about 30,000 miles ago. This motor was ran hard most of it's life. Here's a basic run down of my mods:

1g rods/2g pistons
PTE SCM61 Internally gated Turbo
HKS 272/272
Magnus Intake Manifold
1g throttle body
FIC 950cc injectors
Walbro 255HP rewired
Full throttle FPR @ 43.5 psi
Dejon Race core
dsmlink
2g exhaust mani unported
2.5 o2 housing
RRE downpipe/Apex N1 Catback

Before:
readings are from looking straight at the engine bay 4,3,2,1
167,130,140,145
after adding some oil
181,145,165,185

Knowing that I decided to take on the task of reringing the engine and hoping for better results. I forgot to mention I used a sears 3 pronged honing tool to remove the glaze. I took the head to the machine shop and had it decked, hottanked & vaccum checked for leaks. Afterwards, the machinist said everything was good. Got a stock HG for it & I bought new a set of .040 piston rings. I forgot the brand but the first ring was chrome followed by a cast iron 2nd ring and so on. Rings were measured & gapped .018 on the first ring and .024 on the 2nd ring. I decided to do a hard break-in with numerous 10-15psi 3k-6.5k pulls. The engine felt stronger with the new rings. At this point it's all phsycological. Decided to do a compression test 10 miles after reringing.

After 10 miles:
131,130,135,169

:cry: :mad: Bleh, at that point I am pissed and said #### it and called it a day. I just spent close to $500 on this bs. I'm thinking the engine just needs some extra miles and more so decided not to touch it anymore hoping the compression would build up. During the next two weeks I tuned it a little, raced it, boosted it to 30psi and gave her some good hard miles. Decided to do another compression test.

After roughly 700 miles:
155,140,115,154

After seeing those results I don't know what to say. I'm guessing the rings didn't seat and probably will never seat. I added some oil into the cylinder with 115 and it went up to 167. During the cranking I can actually hear air hiss/blip out on that #2 cylinder. I'm consuming quit a bit of oil. Since those 700 miles I had to add a quart of oil. Also now my oil dipstick pops out during hard pulls, can you say blow by? :( The clearances are probably too loose by now and it needs a new fresh rebuild. Besides all of this the car pulls pretty hard and I'm flowing 60lbs/min.

Have you (or did you) try using a different compression gauge on either set?
 
How did you break the engine in? Did you use a light break in, or did you get on the boost right away? I did a rering once on stock 2g pistons, and just got on it at 20psi after a few minutes of driving. For the first few minutes I reved it to redline, and let the motor reved down in different gears, then I just got on it. Motor had almost perfect compression after 100 miles. Two cylinders where 10psi lower then the rest.

Yea. That is a thought. It's possible that is the problem. This is how I break in my engine. See Break-In Secrets.
 
I got on it right away as soon as I could. Drove her straight to the highway on ramp and proceded to do numerous pulls. It was no easy break in for my car. I've read the break-in secrets as well and I believe in a hard break in. I just don't know what it is. After 700 miles the compression in cylinders 3 and 4 went up while cylinders 2 and 1 went down. :confused: The car doesn't noticibly burn any oil or smoke at idle/WOT. However my dipstick is popping out after a hard run. WTF I believe I do a considerable amount of blowby. As for compression goes I think this is as good as it gets.
 
The first two rings were 180* away from each other so they were pointed at opposite directions. I don't think it was that. I guess it's time to save up for a built engine :)
