i have a 97 GSX...i just replaced my clutch and now my tranny is messed up. The first gear wont engage at all...it wont stay in first gear it would just pop right out. So i took it to a mechanic and he told me that my synchrose for 1st are out along a few others. He said that to fix it would cost alot and it would be alot easier and cheaper to replace the whole tranny. I never have to fix my tranny, so is that true? He said he would charge me $1100 for replace the tranny including labor. A different used, good condition tranny with less than 75k miles, labor, 3 month warranty,....all that for $1100. Is that a deal?

Im also thinking about rebuilting my tranny too....Tre Shepard charge anywhere from 900 to 2000 for tranny rebuilt and plus i will have to take my out tranny and send it to them and wait for them to rebuilt it and send it back and then put it back on again. I dont have that much time.

Ss should i do the replacement or rebuilt it?

$1100 isn't to bad for a raplacement with labor. but if you can cum up with the time and money i'd have TRE build you one which would be much more durable. Good luck on your decission.

First of all, if you just replaced your clutch, I would try re-bleeding and also adjusting your clutch pedal before you go and replace your tranny. Could be a simple fix like that. Since it just starting do it, it makes me think it was something that got a little messed up with the clutch install.

I would ask him to break down what is parts cost and what is labor. Once you know how much labor see if you can justify the expense of a TRE or Shep trans. You don't wan't to put a stock one back in if you are doing it. If you can afford it pay the labor once and put in a good reman trans. You will be thankful in the long run
