Then you have a 6 bolt motor, on 6 bolts you must remove the sproket in order to replace them. On 7 bolts however you can squeeze the b-belt around it.
 
u make it sound so simple. i got the bolt off the sprocket is pressed on the crank pretty good. what exactly do i use to pull it off with? the vfaq dont say how to take it off or what to use it just says take bolt off take sprocket and back plate off.

Honestly, I have never had a problem with them. Clean the area with brake cleaner, and spray it down liberally with some lubricant, see if that helps.
