I'll got a crack in my head and it's leaking oil so i've got to replace it:banghead:

I'm wondering while my head is off are there any sensors/parts/bolts/ect. i should take off and check(i'm trying to make this my dd so i want everything done right)

I won't be rebuilding the block, being 17 money is tight, so i want to do everything else to make this car as reliable as possible:thumb:

When replacing the head be sure to change all the gaskets, timing belt, waterpump, check the knock sensor for any ooz leaking, get new vacuum line, replace the thermostat and hoses, be very careful removing the exhaust manifold studs, and have the new head checked for warp/cracks and pressure tested. How did you crack the head may I ask? Where is it leaking?

yes I would also like to know whare the head is cracked to leak oil...got pics??

the head may have been off at some other time and not surfaced properly allowing for uneven clamp loads allowing the pressurized oil to travel to spots it should not.

I'd like to see this crack as well, but with the head off all of the above are great ideas/great time to redo the parts. Also makes it easier to remove unessarry parts for emissions as well and you can clean up the firewall. Get a heat barriar gasket for the intake manifold, full timing job including the water pump, composite HG, ARP studs. Might as well get the revised lifters too.

I was coming back from the races, i dont race but its fun to watch, and i got a crazy bad oil leak(long story) and when i got off the freeway my car my smoking like i just set it on fire

my dads friend, a mechanic, took a look at it and said i was leaking oil from the head from a crack i got from my loss of oil:sosad:

i told him to take a pic but he put it all back together before telling me the diagnosis:ohdamn: and it is now residing infront of my house parked

i'm going to take it to one of my friends, a DSM mechanic, and have him check it out to make sure it is the head before i buy anything.

will the car still frie up and run? ifso clean the enine.. fill with oil.. fire it up and see if you can see where the oil is leaking from.... check the head gasket area, the turbo oil feed and return and see wher the oil is spraying from....

To the OP....
The only 2 things I would change are, headgasket and valves and install at least ARP studs....

Everyhting else on top, like/ springs; retainers; cams; lifters; etc, could be changed with the head ON...

Definitely double check that. Would probably be very easy to find where it is leaking from. Also beware of the local "DSM Mechanics". I have had to come in after more than a couple of them to fix thier mistakes.

yeah i'll be purchasing some arp head studs, seems to be the most common response.
and i trust the mechanic he's on this site and is crazy with the stuff he knows about our cars
i think last i heard from his he was running 35lbs of boost with 1600cc injectors and e85... ridiculousOMG

i'm just trying to get as much information backing me before we do this because he'll be teaching me how to do it. I just learned how to do a clutch by myself:thumb:

i wont be buying anything before i find out the problem
last time i did that i bought an oem rebuild kit and my motor was fine LOL
