replacing engine= snowball effect

well now im waist deep into a big expensive mess .

my turbo went and made a big oil leak so i sprung for a new turbo + labor and that took every penny i had....20 miles down the road my engine starts knocking.

im driving to florida for college around AUGUST 10-12th. so that leaves me with 7 weeks to come up with the current total of $2200 (Frankenstein 7 bolt from dsm graveyard+ labor from my mechanic.


but someone brought to my attention that they dont come with heads and i will at the very least need a head gasket and maybe a timing belt?


my car had 134k on it when it took a dump on me .

Are there any other expensises im not accounting for ?

The turbo went because the engine was on it's way out- most likely from a lack of oil to the journal bearings and thrust plate.

Hate to tell you, but there's a good chance whatever turbo you bolted on the old engine and ran for 20 miles is probably full of metal and will blow again in a very short time.

okay well how would i know ? shaft play?

By that time it would of course be too late.

The turbo I pulled that thrust plate from had actually no shaft play at all....it wasn't until I disassembled it that I found the metal. Had this turbo been run as it was with all the metal in it, it wouldn't have lasted 50 miles.
