replaced harmonic dampner, now car wont start.

so about a week ago i started my car in the morning and it ended up me having to order a new harmonic balancer. i shut the car off didnt even drive it. i got the new oem balancer in today and put it on. now the car just cranks and wont start. i already tryed jumping the car . nothing
 
ok. . i dont know how i bent valves the damn car has been sitting on jack stands for the past week or so. still hasnt run.

well i dont even really even know what im doing as far as messing with timing
 
the morning i started the car i heard the harmonic balancer seperate and hit the body of the car. i quickly turned it off, jumped out and saw my alt belt came off. i didnt even mess with it until today . me and my brother just took the hb off and put the new one on. tried to start it like twice. got pissed and went inside ### its dark now

i made sure the crank didnt turn counterclockwise while i was doing it . i mean i dont believe theres a wrong way to put the hb on right?
 
did you check to see if it jumped timing when the hb seperated? If it did, it bent the valves. When you put the new one on if you didn't time it just right then it's a possibility you bent the valves trying to start it. what steps did you take putting the timing belt back on?
 
i didnt even take the timing belt off. no i didnt check if it bent valves. i took the old pulley off and slapped the new one on. put all belts back on. i have no idea what im doing when it comes to messing with timing so id rather not mess with it .
 
well idk what kind of car we are talking about here but if it is a 2g 7bolt doesn't the crankshaft position sensor mount behind the harmonic balancer therefore if it got hit by the balancer isnt it possible that, that is the only problem cause that sensor sends a signal to the ecu controlling the spark if this is a 2g 7 bolt

when the alternator belt shredded it didnt take out any ignition fuses as a result of the unstable voltage did it?
 
The crank pulley won't effect your timing, just your accessory belts. Good choice with the oem pulley, I've got a brand new one sitting in my garage waiting to go on (preventative maintenance). I agree with Brassc, check your alt fuse. Are other items not working (windows, radio, seatbelts [1g], etc)? What year is your dsm? Also do you see any damage around where the pulley broke?
 
the cars a 2g 7 bolt 95 talon.

my alt belt didnt shred , just came off. i replaced it with a brand new belt right before it came off . as well as the actual altenator and the power steering belt. i have not inspected the area around the crank pulley/ harmonic balancer but the old one just seperated where the rubber is. from what i can tell it was a oem part probably never been changed LOL.
 
That is MY problem too! i just rebuild a 6bolt with a 7 bolt head and i tried starting it but it wont turn over just keep trying to so i looked around and saw that i forgot to put the Crankshaft position sensor back on. :ohdamn: Hopefully it will spark now. :pray:

How did you put it on...did you buy the kiggly crank trigger kit?

I did a 6-bolt swap w/ a 7-bolt head, and a 7-bolt oil pump modded, the shop never gave me back my crank trigger which was the whole reason i did a 7-bolt oil pump, no I am forced to run a 1G CAS, ### theres no way im taking my timing cover off. F- that.
 
thats not good, check your Engine fuse which is in the engine bay. If its good then check for spark. If no spark is found then i would look into your crank position sensor. Its right behind the HB, if you have spark then i would check timing. If its even 1 tooth off then you should do a compression check. The other thing you can do is pull your valve cover and check to see if you have any rocker arms that got knocked off. If so then thats a good indication of bent valves.
 
k i will check for spark as soon as someone else gets here to help me. do i need to take the lower timing cover off to check the crank sensor?

and i already checked all my fuses. there all good. this has got me screwed. no car and i just spent like 700 dollars on this damn car like a week ago. now i cant go to work. fml
 
i took the hb back off and inspected the area. nothing seems damaged or out of place. i will test spark tomorrow . theres no one to help me LOL

the car is getting spark . just tested it. so im guessing its not getting fuel but where to start?

k i sprayed some ether in the tb to see if it was fuel and it tryed to start but didnt. any ideas guys?


i would just take my car to mudpit but it would cost me like 400 bux just to tow to him LOL.

this is annoying me.


i cant figure it out. ive got timing all set. everythings right LOL .

can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to the run position you might need to have someone stand back by the gas filler with the cap off to hear it but you wanna make sure you can hear a wining sound to see if your pump is working, You could also get a hold of a noid light and make sure that your injectors are pulsing as your cranking the engine
