2G Renault CLIO Install Help

I have been searching high and low for information about installing my CLIO EHPS pump.

I would like to use SS power steering line, but one outlet/inlet on the CLIO pump is a nipple. Not sure how I can make that work. As for the lines, does it matter what port is IN or OUT on the pump, also for the rack?

Wiring seems straight forward... only two wires, power and ground. I am going to run a switch for it, what amperage would I need? I believe at full lock the CLIO runs at about 50. Also I would need a fuse in the line as well correct?

I want to get as much information for the install as possible, as I would like to do a nice write up on this install for others that are searching for it as well.

The nipple is actually the low pressure return.

The pressure port is the threaded one.

You will need a proper solenoid to power the pump, and have your switch turn on the solenoid. You will also want 8-gauge power or better to it, and proper ground. I use - https://www.carltonbates.com/Power-...er-Contactor-85A-12V-DC/24059/p/63285024100-1

I bought a bunch of different fittings to make mine work and fit the spot, and I used an in-line gauge port to put a high-pressure gauge I got from McMaster-Carr that suited my pressure needs up to ~3000psi. - McMaster Part Number : 38055K21

Of the list of fittings above, I ended up using using the metric adapter fitting off the pump to a 90* adapter, then two straight adapters in a row; I originally had a 0.062" restrictor in place, but pulled it because I was still seeing 2200psi with the restrictor out and a standard fitting in place. Then I have my gauge port, then I have my high pressure line attached to that going to the power steering rack, then the rack return side (low pressure) goes to the in-line one-way low pressure valve and into the power steering cooler, then return into the power steering reservoir. The fluid volume of mine is about 1 quart; I am using Redline power steering fluid in it.

Thank you for that awesome post of information! I'm glad that information is out there now for anyone else having trouble like I was!

I was still seeing 2200psi with the restrictor out and a standard fitting in place

Is this PSI safe to run, and not blow some rack seals? or did you end up controlling the pressure?

it was a new steering rack, I guess if you were working with a poor condition rack you could lower the pressure with a couple manual variable pressure valve solutions. I have no issues with it.

I originally made the pressure line with an inline restrictor before the pressure gauge so I could get an idea of line pressure and I can also see quickly if there is a problem. the only thing I did not do which I wanted to do was do a gauge port on the return side and install a speed bleeder for easy bleeding of the system. so far, there are no problems with the existing setup.

That speed bleeder idea is great though, think I'm going to do that for my set up (anything that makes life easier!)
