Removed silent shaft am i losing power now?

my silent shaft seazed up on me which cause my engine to seiz up as well. i got my engein rebuilt and i got the shaft bypassed. i was talking to my machanic the other day "who wasent the one who rebuilt my engein" and he was telling me that i might be loosing power because my knock sensors think my car is knocking too much because the shaft is missing. is this true or is it a normal thing to bypass this shaft?

I have never head of a silent shaft in a 4g63. I think what you are refering to is balance shafts. If you removed the balance shafts makes sure you removed both of them the rear and the front. There is no power loss from balance shafts removal. You should actually gain a horsepower or two and it will not cause the knock sensor to pick up more knock. If anything else it should pick up less knock as there are less moving parts to cause noise. You will feel more vibration inside the car but the engine still vibrates the same as it always have with the shafts. The balance shafts are there only for your butt not the engine.

I am pretty sure that silent shaft = balance shaft and by removing them you will gain a few HP and get better oil pressure.

Silence shafts, balance shafts, counter-balance shafts, pieces of shit...all the same thing

I removed them on my 6-bolt and couldn't tell the difference at all...no vibrations. I'm not sure about increased power as I did a bunch of internal work all at the same time, but I've got really good oil pressure as well.

Your knock sensor picks up ticking/knocking sounds through the cast block, I'm sure its used to a little engine vibration.

Also, if he only removed one, that would cause your motor to vibrate like crazy and could cause some damage. You would know if he only removed one though.

Silent shaft is the correct term for 'balance shaft' as per factory service manual. It is possible your knock sensor may pick up some vibration if you have very hard engine and tranny mounts. The vibration is so insignificant that you pick up from the elimination, they shouldn't even be there in the first place :thumbdown . Only way to know is get a logger.

Slient Shaft is Mitsubishi's trademark for the balance shaft system. I think I read they hold the patents on the basic concepts and have licensed it to everyone else.

The knock sensor only "listens" to a very small part of the noise frequency spectrum. I've never heard of it picking up knock from an engine with loose or worn mounts, or pick up vibration from stiff mounts and no balance shafts.
