Sorry if this has been asked, I searched and nothing really. Anyway, my DSM that I got FRIDAY!! was sitting on the street when mother nature decided to dump rachet ball sized hail on her. So I need to get the damage out, but my insurance does not cover this. I hear that dry ice will pull the dents out, is this true? Has anyone tried it? Do you put the ice directly on the part, or wrap it in a towel or something?

Thanks!

Brian :talon:

Cool! just put a cube in each dent huh!! thanks!

i dont understand how just putting an ice cube in a dent when the car is hot will fix a dent.....ehh worth a try i will do it saturday = )

Umm my bad hurricane charlie will be here friday :( Time to put the car in the garag

seriously try a dent king.
My brother bought it for my dad as a gag, and lo and behold it worked on the small door dings from parking lot assholes. Now big stuff, eh it didn't work so good. So we tried suctioncups from harbor freight. That works good too.

I looked at the dent king, but I have a lot of dents. hail is no joke!!

Shrinking the metal in and around a dent can cause the dent to disappear, but can also warp the metal. Another serious concern is cracking the metal. I would try ice cubes first, perhaps glazing the surface of the metal with quick pass of a hot towel (boiling water + towel).

The reason ice and heat work is fairly simple. Dents are caused by expanding the metal. Imagine pushing your finger into the fabric covering the front of a speaker. By making the metal warm, then cooling it quickly, the metal becomes pliable due to heat, then more dense due to cold and becomes flat again.

Yeah, I would watch out for the dent king, unless you plan on repainting your car. I had hail damage on 2 of my vehicles - it sucks to get thouse stupid dents out without messing up the paint.

We never had a problem with it, it works on the small stuff but anything bigger than a quarter forget it.Never messed the paint up though, then again it was a newer truck.

ok i've been body & paint along time, ice does not work. if the car means something to you then i would take it to your local bodyshop..if not don't bother. hail damage is not very cool at all, and i can't believe that your insurance doesn't cover that, i would get a new ins. company :dsm:

Talon the never 97 and 98 come with nice door guard for the parking lot ass holes,
im trying to protect my car from dings
