Hello and happy late 4th of july! well heres the story, i bought a built 6bolt head and it had what the man said "272 hks regrinds", i dont know how to identify the cam shaft because theres nothing on them except for an "F"! Anyway no big deal, BUT i want to put them into my ported 7bolt head with a better build and when i took them out.. they didnt have shims. heres my questions:

Should i forget about the shims and just drop them in like it was in the other head? or should i shim them just to be sure?
and lastly if i do shim them and it turns out i didnt need the shims, can this have a negative affect ?

The way FFWD says to judge them is to look at the lifters that are installed, if at anytime they are halfway or more extended by visual comparison (compare to a spare that you've collapsed fully , but make sure it's the same generation 1-3 of lifter as there's minor differences)

I probably didn't HAVE to use them on my DKS cams but i decided to anyway and everything has been fine. having the lifters not needing to pump up as far can't be a bad thing unless you're hitting valves against' pistons :D

So i should just shim them anyway just to be on the safe side?

The lifters in the head are taller and i was wondering if i should use those as well, i did buy brand new 3g lifters and i just finished bleeding all of them too.

I decided that im going to put in the new 3g lifters and washers. Now there are 2 different washers i can buy, which one is the best ? Brass washers?

LOOK WHAT I FOUND! in my basement! please tell me these will work:D:D

If you are positive they are HKS 272 regrinds. Call up delta cams and see how much a set of shims are from them. They are really helpful people over there and would be more than happy enough to help you out! There number is 800-562-5500

I emailed them and got the fastest response i have ever seen haha. This is what they said, "A #10 stainless steel washer will do the trick. They should measure about .030" thick.
Ken"
Now i know they say #10 and if i measure them tomorrow and they are .030" thick i can use them?

yeah, i would call them tomorrow just to make sure. I have an extra set of shims that i got with my 274 cams, you can ask them if these work and i can next day you them if you just want to pay shipping

Yes this is what I am using like what I stated in my first reply. I called them because they forgot to send the shims when I got regrinds and they said the same thing. They're just spacers to make the lifters taller, having been running with them for 800 miles now, zero issues, LOVE the cams.

Ok, what happends if the cams arent Delta? I emailed the DKS website and no one responded.
At first i was trying to figure out what company regrind they were so i can get the correct shim. But i figured it was all the same?

Do the cams have two blue stripes painted on both cams? Pretty sure Delta does this to all their regrinds...makes sense to put the same shim for all regrinds to me, it is only a paperclipe thick

No stripes, il take a picture of them.

I just got word from ken saying the zinc washers will flatten. They need to be stainless steel. I am going to take pictures of the cams now i'll post them in a little bit.
