Hey guys,

I'm installing a new clutch (ACT 2600) into my 1995 Eagle Talon AWD Tsi. I had my old flywheel resurfaced on the last install and think I should buy a new aftermarket one. Any suggestions? I saw the Fidanza is like 8lbs, but it's aluminum pressed to steel I think. Do I need to worry about that coming apart and go with a billet steel one? Thanks up front for the suggestions.

God bless,
Tim B.

Thanks Spln_Hrd,

I'll look into those.

Anyone out there using the Fidanza have any comments?
Or does anyone know of a link that already addresses this issue. I can't seem to find what I'm looking for in the search.

Thanks, and...

God bless,
Tim B.

Personally, I always go for the lightest one my budget can afford. I run the Fidanza and love it. It has a steel ring that bolts to the aluminum flywheel. It is nice because you just repace it, instead of the entire flywheel. If you're looking for an affordable alternative RRE makes a lightned factory flywheel that is around $125.00 and it weighs 14-14.5lbs VS the facotry 19lbs. Act's are great flywheels too.

Hope that helps :thumb:

I'm using the Unorthodox Ultra lite(9lbs) with the ACT 2600, 6 months and no complaints here.

Thanks all,

I went ahead and bought the fidanza this morning. Can't wait till it gets here. I'm all excited.

God bless,

I read that thread and have had 5 different clutches in 3 different cars. None of them have EVER been balanced. I have had a mix of stock, lightened stock and aftermarket flywheels and this has never been the case. I have also had street discs and pucked discs. (this goes between my two VW's and my two Talons)

With that said I have never balanced a flywheel clutch combo and never had the problems that thread is describing. My current clutch setup as seen above was NOT balanced and does not have that problem and the flywheel is 12lbs which is a lot lighter than stock, no balance shafts, and lighter than stock pistons and rods (eagle, wiseco). So whatever the problem is either it's just bad luck, bad combo or people are getting way too picky.

Typically when you balance an engine whie it's built you balance the clutch flywheel and pully with it all together. I just can't see any benefit from balancing a clutch flywheel and putting it on a stock motor that is not balanced and expecting some type of miracle.

You are lucky. There are many threads that describe that same problem so obviously there are issues. Some guys here can run 13's with just a boost controller and a downpipe. That doesn't mean everyone can. Some people have bad vibrations after changing the clutch/flywheel, some don't. That doesn't mean you shouldn't take the precaution of having them balanced to be sure the problem is eliminated.

It probably is bad luck or a bad combo. In my case I had NO vibration with my stock flywheel and two previous CFDF clutches. I swapped in the Fidanza and ACT 2600, no other mods made, and I had VERY noticable deceleration vibration. Others seem to also. Fidanza actually said they've seen problems with ACT and other clutches being out of balance. That doesn't mean they all are. And no, I am not too picky. I've driven cars with solid motor plates and stiff suspensions so I can tolerate quite a bit. But I do know when there's harmonics that shouldn't be there and if balancing the clutch/flywheel will eliminate the problem then I'd recommend it.

I have heard way too many bad stories about fidanza to ever buy one of their flywheels. The one thread on here with them not being balanced, a friend of mine bought one for his probe and the holes to bolt it to the crank were oversized. Fidanza said it'll be ok, just put put some extra lock-tite around the holes. haha Yeah right, OK. I put one in my father's corvette and it was to thin and I had to buy shorter crank bolts for it and it was severely out of balance. They forgot to ship it with the counter-balance weight. When I finally got the weight, I put it on and it was still not perfect. Also I know people have had problems with aluminum flywheels ovaling the bolt holes to the crank. :notgood: Get an ACT! :thumb:

It is not necessary to balance your clutch flywheel assembly. After it wears(break-in typically 250-500 miles depending o your disc composition), it becomes out of balance anyway.

However, if you are rebuilding the motor you can balance the whole rotating assembly and make it worth your while. Meaning the crank pulley all the way through to the flywheel/clutch assembly. But like I said before the clutch will wear and then it will not be in balance. Keep in mind that this is minute, and all manual trans. cars are this way :thumb:

Ok reading the above post I have a problem, my clutch went out on my stage 3 Clutch Masters, while my flywheel was damaged and it cant be turned at all. Now when I bought this car it was balanced for the entire rotating mass, being as it is, I am trien to get the car run with a stock clutch and a stock flywheel. Would this create a problem and tear up my engine or would everything be ok?

Dont you guys who drag race find it harder to launch your cars without the inertia of the stock flywheel aiding the launch? I sure did. I had to rev it higher and it seemed like it either A. put more wear on the clutch or B. put more wear on the tranny. Depending on how I launched it.

Personally I like the feel of a flywheel thats closer to the stock weight to aid in launching. I used to have an AWD.

Fidanza is great , i'm using it in my car only problem is that at low speed , low rpms the car bucks a bit so i have to be a little more aware of what i'm doing in traffic , as for bolting it up i used abit more torque then required along with lock-tite , i'm alittle paranoid about aluminum but so far so good . :thumb:
